Overview:

Responsible for providing students with the career development tools and resources to be successful in college and beyond. Assist students in obtaining meaningful career and leadership experiences through services offered by the department and the College. Work collaboratively with Academic Institutes, building relationships necessary to foster career and leadership opportunities through programming and varied educational opportunities. Collaborate with the other administrative staff in the department to implement career and leadership initiatives, develop and maintain employer/public relations and partnerships, and provide support to the Department.

Responsibilities:

Career Coaching

  • Coach and guide students to reach their career goals. Provide information and resources necessary for career planning and development, job preparation, leadership development, and career development and preparedness.
  • Support students in developing a career action plan and strategies for success and completion of a degree.
  • Mentor students in career skills needed to be successful in college and beyond; prepare and present workshops on a variety of career development-related topics; develop and maintain positive working relationships with faculty and staff to enhance communication, interventions and student success.
  • Advise students in the area of, but not limited to Internship, Service-Learning, leadership development, on-campus employment, Post-Brookdale opportunities, etc.
  • Instruct and prepare students to write resumes, interview, and conduct job.

Employer/Public Relations and Partnerships

  • Serve as liaison with businesses and organizations to develop internships, leadership development, and/or service-learning sites for Brookdale Community College students.
  • Gather and analyze information from administrators, counselors, faculty, and staff to coordinate and implement career and leadership development activities.
  • Coordinate, develop, and maintain internship opportunities for students in Academic Institutes. Collaborate with appropriate faculty, staff, students, and outside agencies for development.
  • Serve as a member of advisory committees, maintaining relationships with various sectors of the community, including employers, outside organizations and agencies, and college-related committees.
  • Actively participate in appropriate national, state, and regional association.

Departmental Support

  • Maintain records of student and employer activities utilizing the Colleges Data Management System (Colleague).
  • Oversee job and internship database (College Central/Handshake).
  • Coordinate the design and distribution of program literature and information to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Implement grant activities and/or contracted services.
  • Assist with student employment and on-campus employer programs that support students and academic institutes/administrative departments across campus.
  • Supervise assigned student employees and assist with developing and implementing training modules.
  • Provide administrative advisement to the NSLS and serve as the Club Advisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in a related field is required.
  • Masters Degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Three years experience in Career Services, Student Development, Student Services or a related field is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to develop positive relationships with a diverse student population.
  • Must have ability to communicate ideas, principles and concepts effectively.
  • Must be computer literate with skills at an intermediate level including the ability to utilize and apply Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point as well as specialized software programs and computer applications essential to the learning process, e.g. the Colleges Learning Management System and ERP.
  • Knowledge of information research strategies.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and outside constituencies.
  • Ability to travel to other sites is required.

Preferred Qualifications & Special Considerations:

  • Knowledge of Monmouth County and its communities.
  • Local travel is required. May be required to work evenings and weekends.
