Overview
Jenner & Block is looking for a creative, strategic, and business-minded builder and ‘connector' to serve as our next Career Strategist and Alumni Relations Manager. The person in this role will be responsible for the development and management of a comprehensive program to assist Jenner & Block attorneys as they move in-house and will also lead our efforts to expand and strengthen our alumni program.
At Jenner & Block we train talented lawyers and develop strong, life-long relationships with them over the course of their careers. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to build and leverage relationships and resources to identify in-house opportunities, assist in in-house placements, and foster an active alumni community that provides ongoing career-long connection and support to all our alumni.
The Career Strategist and Alumni Relations Manager will report to the Director of Professional Development and will work closely with the Alumni Committee, Marketing, and the larger Talent team. This is an exempt position with normal hours of 8:45 a.m.-5:15 p.m. but expected to be on call and available as needs dictate.
This position can be filled in any of Jenner & Block's US offices—Chicago, New York, Washington, DC, San Francisco, or Los Angeles.
Career Strategist and Alumni Relations Manager:
• Outplacement counseling and transition coaching. Provide confidential career counseling, coaching, and networking support to Jenner & Block attorneys, alumni, and friends of the firm who are contemplating in-house positions or looking to explore the next step in their career.
• Build and leverage strong networks (with the Jenner Alumni Committee, across the firm, and throughout the larger employment field) to help Jenner attorneys identify, connect to, and secure in-house legal positions.
• Develop deep knowledge of career paths, relationships, and opportunities available within the larger legal world to match Jenner attorneys with the right opportunities at the right time.
• Manage and grow available career resources. Identify and share open corporate legal positions through databases and newsletters; provide library of job search resources. Support the firm's growth objectives by prioritizing placements with key firm clients, informed by close collaboration with the firm's Client Development and Strategic Growth team.
• Coordinate and promote secondments to clients (in partnership with the Professional Development and Client Development and Strategic Growth teams). Provide management and consistency to the secondment experience for attorneys and clients, ensuring the right attorney is matched with the right opportunity, regular check-ins are conducted, and the client relationship is strengthened during and after the secondment.
• Alumni Engagement. Provide strategic leadership and management of our alumni relations program to determine the best ways to engage and leverage alumni; ensure that alumni stay connected through firm marketing activities (events, publications, reunions, gifts, etc.) and regular, sustained contact with Jenner & Block lawyers.
• Partner with Marketing to identify and develop valuable alumni relationships as potential sources of business; leverage alumni as advocates for Jenner throughout the business development lifecycle (pitches and other pursuits).
