Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Must have successfully completed Ensign University new hire core classes, a 4-hour Medication Aide Training class, 30 hours on-the-job training on the med-cart; sign off by Wellness Director and RN Delegate. Caregivers will be required to successfully complete Ensign University new hire core classes, orientation training, 15 hours of on-the-job training on the hall and a sign off by the Wellness Director. A criminal background check and drug screen will be done before the job placement.Specific job requirements include the additional requirements:
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must be able to deal positively with residents, co-workers, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
- Must be patient, tactful, cheerful, and willing to handle difficult residents and situations without anger or other unacceptable behaviors.
- Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.
- Must not pose a threat to the health and safety of residents or other individuals in the workplace.
- Must be willing to follow the directions and requests given by RNs and LVNs if such is within your scope of practice.
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
Physical requirements of the job:
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50# and to push, pull, move residents of varying weights throughout the facility, or provide an official physician statement detailing why you cannot do so. This statement must include specific lifting and activity restriction guidelines.
- Must be able to walk and perform physical activity through most of a work shift.
- Must be able to cope with the physical and mental stress of the job.
- Must be able to see and hear or utilize prosthetics that will allow the requirements of this position to be performed fully.
- Must meet general health requirements according to the policies of this facility and pass a medical and physical examination.
- Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and sometimes hostile people within the facility.
- Must be able to help evacuate residents during emergency situations.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Administration of oral and topical medications.
- Administration of eye, ear, and nose drops.
- Administration of inhalers and nebulizer treatments.
- Turn on Oxygen Concentrators and adjust flow to current orders.
- Provide foot soaks.
- Apply TED hose and ACE wraps.
- Monitor for medication effects and side effects.
- Provide care to facility residents based on specific policies and procedures.

- Must comply with all facility policies and procedures.
- Must cooperate with all departments and co-workers in a congenial manner to ensure a pleasant living and care environment for all residents.
- Greet new admissions and introduce them to other residents.
- Help provide quality care to residents including:
- Reposition all residents that need such assistance every two hours;
- Shave male residents;
- Provide hair and nail care as directed by nurses;
- Clean glasses, insert hearing aides;
- Dress and undress residents who need that assistance;
- Assist with ambulation, range of motion, and restorative procedures as directed;
- Provide toileting to residents who need that assistance;
- Provide peri care as directed or indicated;
- Change linens, check residents for incontinency, provide clean pads or briefs as needed;
- Check residents for skin redness or other signs of breakdown and notify Wellness Director immediately of any negative findings.
- Report or record:
- All accidents and incidents or medication errors to the Wellness Director;
- Any and all resident or family complaints to the Wellness Director;
- Any change in resident condition to the Wellness Director;
- Blood pressure, temp, pulse, respiration as assigned;
- Weights and heights as directed;
- All medications and treatments given in PCC eMar.
- Document care given in POC.
- Assist with meals including:
- Assist or transport residents to and from meals;
- Assist with setting up and serving food, cutting food, applying condiments;
- Assist with feeding residents who need that assistance;
- Perform after meal care - wash face and hands, oral care, toileting, etc.
- Assist with bowel and bladder function;
- Provide perineal care to incontinent residents with each incontinent episode;
- Toilet incontinent residents every two hours;
- Ensure that all resident rooms are kept neat and tidy, make beds;
- Make regular periodic rounds on all residents;
- Make last rounds with the shift that follows you;
- Assist with care of dying residents and with post mortem care as directed;
- Serve snacks, provide a fresh water supply as indicated;
- Follow facility safety and infection control policies and procedures;
- Ensure that adequate supplies and equipment are present based on resident need and that any equipment is in good working order;
- Know and observe ALL resident rights, including confidentiality, privacy, dignity.
- Will be expected to attend continuing education programs and employee trainings.
- May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, accidental injury, falls, blood or body fluids.
