Summary of Job Duties:

* Travels to and gains access to various County buildings to perform skilled carpentry; uses hand and power tools to fabricate, repair and install doors, door frames, windows, locks, etc.; makes building repairs (e.g., repairs roofs, walls, ceilings, floors, remodels offices); interprets blueprints to determine materials, equipment and methods needed for carpentry projects; cooperates with other trades personnel regarding new construction, renovation and building maintenance.

* Maintains records of time and materials used to complete projects.

* Cleans work area; oils and cleans equipment; sharpens tools.

* May use various torches, related welding equipment, power tools and protective clothing and devices to weld equipment, furniture, pipes, brackets, boiler equipment, etc.; may repair and rebuild locks; makes keys and tracks issuance; may repair metal hardware (e.g., doors, jail cells, etc.)

* Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

* Performs duties of co-workers as required or assigned

Requirements:

* Four (4) years apprentice experience in carpentry field and/or other work experience which evidences a thorough knowledge of carpentry methods, tools and materials and demonstrable ability to interpret blueprints and skill in carpentry

* Valid driver's license issued by the state of residency.

Hazardous Working Conditions:

* Prolonged standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling. Lift up to 50 lbs without material handling device. Ability to use and wear personal protective equipment: half-face respirators/dust mask, safety glasses, body harness for fall protection, earplugs/muffs and hand protection. Works with sharp or rough materials and use sharp tools and power equipment. May work outdoors and be subject to variable weather conditions.

Position Specific Qualifications

* Meet maximum weight requirements for ladders, personal fall protection equipment, and aerial lifts. Maximum lbs. include man and tools. Type 1A Extra Heavy Duty Industrial Ladder - maximum capacity of 300 lbs. Type 1AA Special Duty Industrial Ladder - maximum capacity of 375 lbs. Most personnel fall arrest equipment (full-body harness & lanyards) is labeled with a capacity limit of 310 lbs. Single Man Lifts - 300-350 lbs.
