Carpenter Tarrant County College District Posting Number: F006247 Position Status: Full Time Assignment Length: This field only applies to Faculty Grant Funded: No Category: Plant Operations Class Code: 62 Starting Pay: $47,424 Location: Northeast Department: DT Physical Plant Job Summary: Reporting to the Construction Leader, the Carpenter constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, wallboard, and related materials conforming to local building codes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Essential Performance Requirements* Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated Selects specified type of lumber or other materials Prepares layout, and marks cutting and assembly lines on materials; shapes materials to prescribed measurements; assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue; verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter's level Erects framework for structures, builds stairs, and lays-out and installs partitions and cabinet work Lays subflooring and covers it with building paper to keep out moisture and lays hardwood, parquet, wood strip, and block floors by nailing floors to subfloor or cementing them to mastic, asphalt, or other appropriate bases Applies shock absorbing, sound deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as locks, letter drops, and kick plates Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures at ground level Welds metal parts to steel structural members Performs building walk-through for all relevant preventative tasks Cleans shops, maintains tools and equipment, and performs inventory of tools and material in and around shop Repairs furniture and chairs Service Excellence Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC) Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College Supervision Works under the general supervision of Construction Leader *Performs Other Related Tasks as Required The duties listed are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.
