Job Title: Carpentry/Industry Course Instructor (FT)Schedule: Monday-Friday day and evening classes, weekend availability helpfulLabor Grade: Department: Training Reports To: Site ManagerSummary: The Carpentry/Industry Course Instructor delivers student-centered hands-on Carpentry instruction, providing a positive, supportive, and professional atmosphere to assist students in successfully completing their programs of study. Additional responsibilities include curriculum development and implementation, special projects, verifying student competencies, student advisement, meeting student retention, maintaining student records, classroom material management, and maintaining contact with industry subject matter experts.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide student-centered instruction and training in both theory and hands-on skills
  • Develop and implement appropriate assignments and student learning assessments
  • Assist in identifying appropriate training modules and incorporating photos related to Carpentry for training purposes
  • Ensure classroom lectures contain essential curriculum components and reflect current industry trends
  • Communicate progress in the course to students in a timely manner
  • Advise current and prospective students
  • Participate in and contribute to instructor development activities throughout the year; lead fellow instructors by example
  • Collaborate and work closely with the Facilities team daily
  • Experience in the following is helpful:
    • Heating/Boilers
    • Electricity
    • Plumbing
    • Handyperson
    • OSHA
    • Green Buildings/Energy Efficiency
Requirements:
  • Up to date Knowledge of applicable regulations and standards associated with Carpentry and construction. Current work experience in the related field of carpentry or construction preferred.
  • Expert Knowledge of how to properly Plaster, Patch, and Repair holes in drywall.
  • Expert Knowledge of Carpentry related Materials such as, Patching Compounds, Plastering Compounds, Drywall, and all other wood working materials.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in Carpentry and/or Construction.
  • Expert knowledge of all types of power tools such as but not limited to,
  • Table Saws
  • Hand Saws
  • Drills
  • Nail Guns
  • Oscillating tool
  • Circular saws and all types of interchangeable saws that can be used.
  • Help Facilities team coordinate all classroom upgrades from planning to execution.
  • Current work experience in the related field of carpentry or construction preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience with students from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with students from a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in using digital platforms to instruct, communicate, and record program data.
  • Must be able to utilize office equipment such as desktop/notebook computers, copiers, printers, and scanners.
  • High School diploma, GED certification or equivalent.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
