The Counselor conducts regular sessions with patients to address their personal issues and psycho-social needs. They act as a Case Manager for each patient to coordinate services based on individual assessments. Additionally, they facilitate therapy groups, assist patients in problem identification, and collaborate with them to define issues. The Counselor ensures all necessary documentation is completed and maintains accurate, confidential patient records. They participate in training seminars to learn treatment techniques and theories, pursuing the CASAC credential. The Counselor regularly updates case files with significant data and develops treatment plans to present to the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT). They conduct individual conferences with other disciplines as needed to support effective treatment within the agency. Weekly clinical supervision meetings with the Behavioral Health Supervisor provide opportunities to discuss work, treatment challenges, and case coordination. The Counselor refers patients to other clinic disciplines when appropriate and seeks feedback from colleagues for case management and treatment planning. They oversee forensic collection for their patients and monitor treatment-related issues to update plans accordingly. The Counselor provides vocational and educational assessment, counseling, and follow-up for patients, including those not assigned to a Vocational Specialist. They complete Vocational Profile Forms for each patient on their caseload and offer counseling to prepare patients for vocational or educational pursuits. Referrals to Vocational and Educational Specialists ensure comprehensive evaluation, counseling, and program referrals. The Counselor supports patients referred to in-house vocational and educational programs and external training opportunities through case management, follow-up, and supportive counseling. Regular consultations with Vocational and Education Specialists inform ongoing case management and treatment strategies. The Counselor presents vocational treatment objectives during IDT meetings and maintains a flexible schedule, including rotation on weekends and holidays as needed. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the manager as required.

Requirements:

  • CASAC (Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor) required
  • Demonstrated proficiency in delivering patient treatment, encompassing effective communication skills, successful completion of specialized Human Services training, comprehension of human interaction and personality development, and proficient writing and documentation of case records.
  • Knowledgeable about Regulatory Agency Regulations pertaining to patient care operations and practices.
  • Essential understanding of group dynamics.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Competence in utilizing computerized programs for treatment plans and case notes.
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to engage in various committees and collaborate effectively within team environments.
  • Fluency in a second language considered advantageous.
