Job DescriptionPurpose:Responsible for the collection of fees; distribution of Metro-Cards; verifying insurance eligibility; daily banking procedure; arranging transportation for discharged patients from facility as requested.Specific Duties and Responsibilities:The Cashier is charged with and responsible for:• Collection of fees from patients and daily reconciliation of same in Main Cashier area or RBG Building.• Verification of patients' data (insurance and demographic) in current Financial System. Refer patients to Managed Care / Financial Counseling to update/ correct information.• On a daily basis, review all self-pay accounts and refer all non-compliant patients to Financial Counseling for review.• Process credit cards, cash, and / or check payments for medical records, medical or ancillary services, Lost Identification Cards, etc.• On a daily basis, prepare deposits for all checks and cash presented within the hospital or received via mail.• Deposit all checks electronically while utilizing J.P. Morgan's Virtual Remit.• Distribution of Medicaid Metro-Cards after verification of eligibility utilizing the PTAR signature pad to track the distribution.• Daily reconciliation of Metro-Cards.• Dispense Special Account Metro-Cards to non-insured patients being discharged from South Brooklyn Health.• On a daily basis, complete request for transportation received via e-mail for patients being discharged. Process includes but not limited to insurance verification, obtain authorizations when applicable, enter data into portal, contact the H+H's transportation dispatcher, scanning of transportation paperwork in the Departments Enterprise Folder and current Financial System.• Perform all duties in alignment with the mission, vision, values, and behavioral expectations of NYC Health + Hospitals.• Responsible for all other duties upon assignment.• Perform all duties in alignment with the mission, vision, values, and behavioral expectations of NYC H+H.
Minimum Qualifications1. A four-year High School Diploma or its equivalent and one year of full-time experience dealing with sums of money in such positions as cashier, sales cashier, bank teller, housing teller, railroad clerk, or toll collector; or2. Two years of full-time experience as described in 1 above; or3. Education and /or experience equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of full-time experience as described in 1 above.
