Salary: $17.15 - $19.00 Hourly Location : Seneca Creek State Park, MD Job Type: Seasonal Job Number: FY2025-00938 Department: Parks, Recreation & Culture Division: Winter Lights (1430) Opening Date: 09/03/2024 FLSA: Non-Exempt Description The , Cultural Events & Services Division, is looking for experienced cashiers to join our seasonal holiday team in the operations office of the in Seneca Creek State Park. The position is part-time and seasonal, with evening shifts available every night of the week from mid-November through December 2024. Availability to work holidays is required. You must be willing and able to work at least 10 shifts in the five-week operation. On our team, you will work an average of 10 to 20 hours per week and be part of a positive, responsible, and customer oriented group of people who like to make the work environment fun! Starting hourly rate will be within the range and will be offered at a level consistent with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. Direct deposit of paychecks is a condition of employment for all City of Gaithersburg employees. Job FunctionsWhat you will do with us:
  • Receive and process payments; handle intake of money for admissions, passes, group reservations, and other activities.
  • Prepare bank deposits and related reports.
  • Receive and greet visitors; notify appropriate staff of visitor issues or complaints.
  • Respond to routine inquiries and requests for information from visitors; provide general information regarding the Festival.
  • Ensure office equipment is functioning properly; report problems to supervisor.
  • Perform a variety of office assistance tasks when requested.
  • Assist in light cleaning duties (sweeping, mopping, and disposing of office trash).
  • Perform work outdoors in cold temperatures and various weather conditions
  • Occasionally travel to other locations to attend meetings, training, etc.
  • Provide outstanding service, pursue continuous improvement, and exceed expectations.

  • Minimum of two years of responsible experience in guest services or equivalent.
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Availability to work weekends, especially around the holidays.
  • Previous experience with data processing, cash management, point of sale cash management, and/or public service.
  • General knowledge of standard cashiering policies and procedures.
  • General knowledge of business math and the ability to operate a cash register and a calculator.
  • General knowledge of correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Skill in interacting with a wide range of customers of diverse ages and backgrounds.
  • Physical ability to perform the required job duties; must be able to sit for extended periods (up to 5 hours), stand, walk, stoop, bend, and reach, sometimes in cold or inclement weather.
  • Be able to see, hear, and speak clearly and understand, carry out, and provide verbal instructions or directions, in person and by radio.
  • Ability to interact professionally, diplomatically, courteously, and cooperatively with customers and other staff of diverse ages and backgrounds.
  • Or any acceptable equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties.
