About The PositionA cardiac catheterization technologist, also known as a cath lab tech, works in a healthcare facility to perform tests and procedures on patients to help diagnose heart conditions. Their responsibilities include: Preparing patients: Taking medical histories, answering questions, and assessing vital signs Operating equipment: Setting up, calibrating, and maintaining specialized equipment such as x-ray machines, EKG machines, hemodynamic monitoring systems, and ultrasound devices Assisting with procedures: Passing instruments, manipulating catheters and guidewires, and operating angiographic equipment Monitoring patients: Monitoring patients' vital signs and comfort levels during procedures, and recognizing cardiac arrhythmias Providing care: Assisting physicians during adverse reactions or acute emergencies, and providing post-procedure care to patients before transfer Maintaining records: Maintaining detailed patient records and documentation for each procedure Cath lab techs may also participate in life-saving measures such as defibrillation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, assist in transporting patients to nursing units, and attend to patient needs during cardiac lab procedures. Cath lab techs should have strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, be able to work collaboratively as part of a healthcare team, and be proficient in using electronic health records (EHR) systems.9360541EXPTEMP
