Position Overview
We are seeking a Catholic Religious Education (RE) Coordinator to lead and manage the Roman Catholic Religious Education Program. This individual will coordinate and oversee religious education for children (K-12), sacramental preparation, and volunteer management. The role requires dedication, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to fostering Catholic faith formation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, manage, and implement the RE program in accordance with the Archdiocese for Military Services curriculum.
- Coordinate and train catechists, aides, and volunteers.
- Organize sacramental preparation and celebrations (First Holy Communion, Reconciliation, Confirmation).
- Maintain accurate records of participants, volunteers, and sacramental activities.
- Collaborate with the Roman Catholic Chaplain and chapel staff on events, budgets, and administrative needs.
- Ensure adherence to all Roman Catholic Church teachings and AMS standards.
- Attend required meetings and submit reports for program evaluation and continuity.
- Provide logistical and resource support for RE activities, including facility setup, clean-up, and program publicity.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in theology, theological studies, or religious studies (preferred).
- OR a related minor, associate's degree, or certificate in theology or religious studies.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience as an RE Coordinator or 5 years of teaching in a Catholic religious education program.
Religious Commitment
- Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing, evidenced by a pastor's letter and active participation in church life.
- Familiarity with Vatican II documents, USCCB guidelines, and AMS curriculum standards.
Certifications
- AMS Catechist Certification (preferred) or willingness to begin the process within 30 days.
Skills
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and PDF).
- Ability to work in a diverse and ecumenical environment.
Schedule and Expectations
- Hours: Average 20 hours/week (September–June), including Sunday RE classes, office hours, meetings, and program tasks.
- Presence Required: Sunday classes, monthly Catholic Advisory Council meetings, and other designated events.
Additional Requirements
- Positive background check.
- Completion of “Protecting God's Children” training or equivalent (e.g., VIRTUS).
- Flexibility to adapt to evolving program needs and collaborate with a diverse community.
