Summary:Under the general supervision of the Director of Nursing, the nurse is responsible and accountable for hemodialysis and related therapies for renal failure patients in the hospital setting.Job Responsibilities:The Nurse will:Prepare and monitor equipment used for intermittent or continuous hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and water treatment in the hospital setting, including performing and recording quality control checks. Additional modalities may include Therapeutic Apheresis or Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT).Perform and document pre-, intra-, and post- treatment nursing assessments for hospital patients. Communicate with physician regarding patient care delivered.Initiate, monitor, and terminate dialysis treatments via all accesses in accordance with established policies and procedures.Administer medications as ordered within the scope of licensure and provide documentation of administration and result of medication.Receive, transcribe, and implement written and verbal orders from physicians.Document treatment related information and services provided in the patient medical record per hospital policies.Enter treatment related data in to appropriate system for quality tracking and billing purposes (if applicable).Receive lab/diagnostic reports, and forward information to physician as necessary.Provide and document patient/family education regarding renal disease and therapies and other health concerns.Recognize and respond to emergency situations including, but not limited to, cardiac arrest, fire, and loss of water and power.Maintain working knowledge of and comply with hospital policies and procedures.Serve as the primary contact for the hospitalized patient to the nephrologist and hospital staff caring for the patient, and as a liaison to the patient's chronic unit.Upon patient's discharge, relay appropriate information regarding patient's hospitalization to chronic unit.Work closely with other staff to complete work as a team.Comply with Saratoga Hospital guidelines for Occurrence Reports and complete reports accordingly.Represent Saratoga hospital in a professional manner in the hospital setting.Act as a preceptor for new staff as assigned.Follow hospital guidelines for administration of blood and blood products.Comply with safe and effective infection control practices per hospital policy. Comply with hospital procedures related to hazardous waste disposal. Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.Be available by pager or phone and respond timely as defined by local policy when scheduled on call for Hospital Services program. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum Qualifications:NYS Registered Nurse Licensure BLS certification ACLS certification within one year of employment.Salary Range: $34 - $55.81Pay Grade: N10Compensation may vary based upon, but not limited to: overall experience and qualifications, shift, and location.
