Job description1.Job Scope/Description: Define the purpose of the positionThis position will require DOT regulation compliance to transport raw materials from various locations to the mills for processing. This individual must be able to work within a team environment, as well as independently.This position must demonstrate, through current and past experience, a keen awareness to safe defensive driving practices.1.1.Reports to:Trucking Supervisor1.2.FLSA (Hourly/Non-Exempt/Exempt)Hourly.1.3.Physical Demands (Lifting/Standing and Sitting/Other)Must be physically capable to perform the tasks of truck driver: entering and exiting the truck, climbing loader ladders, climbing loads of logs, strapping loads, tightening straps, chaining tires, exposure to the elements (cold, hot, wind, rain, snow, dust) and must be capable of lifting65-85 lbs.2.Duties and Responsibilities:Must conform to all DOT requirements in terms of maintaining a CDL (A) in acceptable standards including maintaining a current medical card.Schedule accordingly to bring logs/lumber into specified company yard location or destinations as specified on the BOL.Trucks: Visual and physical inspection of unit to be driven include following procedures routinely: Proper engine oil level, check for any fluid leaks, engine warmed before moving, engine air pressure holding, running lights working, tires properly inflated, brakes functional and releasing. Documenting same using a pre-use inspection reportTrailers: Same inspection of tires brakes, lights and landing gear, air and electrical connectors, check that the tractors fifth wheel is secured with trailer pin. Documenting same on a pre-use inspection reportKnow standardized industry approved hand signals - and use when necessary.Fuel up - this requires two cards: personal and vehicle. If fuel cards do not function properly, use personal credit card and driver will be reimbursed.Know, understand & follow Accident ProceduresOn Highway - Notification to authorities. Collect all information as stated in your vehicle accident envelope. Submit this information to Main Office for follow up. Fill out accident report.Off Highway - Notify Loader Operator (harvesting site), R&M and Mgr. Fill out damage report.Personal - If serious, get help - go to hospital emergency. If you can be treated by first aid, use medical kit located in all loader trucks. Notify Loader Operator, Main Office and Mgr. Fill out injury report when possible. Call HR to setup a Drug Screen Test within 24 hours of accident.Track daily driving in DOT log book.(when applicable)Communicate with loader operator for safety & proper unloading processes.Maintain clean equipment inside & out.Track service schedule for truck and assure proper maintenance of equipment.Maintain reports & paperwork for loads transported.Conduct investigations and completing proper reports for incidents, accidents, downtime, and near miss situations.Tie down, tarp, or cover product pending on the load.Be alert and courteous, obey all posted speed limits. Do not tailgate other units going to the same job site. Use flashers when parked on roadside or when moving slower than the flow of traffic, poor visibility, etc. Tell other drivers and loader operators about hazardous roadways, detours, portable weight scales, short cuts that work in good weather. Be very aware of school buses, state equipment, farm equipment (young operators), all slow moving vehicles, low overhead wires and bridges, tree branches and posted weight limits.Record start unladen mileage and weigh unit out on scales.
