POSITION SUMMARY
The Centralized Patient Logistics (CPL) Registration Specialist is fully engaged in providing exceptional Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship to ensure the Mission/Vision and financial integrity of Heath First, Inc. by achieving sustainable levels of internal customer service, regulatory compliance, and financial performance within patient registration.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
* Accurately reviews and enters all MD admission orders and status type changes into STAR throughout the hospitalization of every Health First patient including direct admissions and patient transfers.
* Collaborates with Utilization Review Case Managers for appropriate admission status of patients admitted through all special procedural areas.
* Amends Code 44 status as ordered in the Electronic Medical Records to ensure proper billing information is added to STAR.
* Evaluates all Medicare inpatient admissions for the need to add additional Medicare coverage to the account. Escalates need for required follow-up to the Revenue Cycle Department for the required Medicare letter to be signed and the MSPQ to be completed.
* Responsible for the 24 hours a day, seven days a week:
* Full registration of newborns at CCH and HRMC
* Attending MD order changes for entire Health First Hospital Division
* First Flight, prehospital, and emergent admission accounts
* Roundtrip and inter-facility transfer accounts
* Inpatient hospice accounts
* Hospital at Home accounts
* Emergency department admissions
* Assumes overnight and weekend patient registration responsibility for HRMC Obstetrics and Labor & Delivery.
* Collaborates with the Transfer Access RN Case Managers and CPL Bed Control to ensure timely creation of accounts for all transfers to decrease delays in placement and throughput.
* Serves as a resource for Hospital Division staff in the use of designated computer systems and software programs, and for troubleshooting account recovery and corrections as requested by any department within the IDN.
* Makes certain accurate orders are in place for all service types and collaborates with Case Management Utilization Review to ensure accounts are assigned and discharged correctly.
* Assists with the monitoring of accounts to ensure accurate information is obtained and compliance requirements are met for physician orders, Medicare regulations, Hospice regulations, billing regulations, and HIPAA.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
* Work Experience: Minimum one (1) year recent experience in Patient Access/Registration, or as a Health Unit Coordinator, or Billing Specialist in acute care environment preferred.
* Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
* General knowledge of medical terminology.
* Proficiency working in multiple computer applications simultaneously.
* Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to collaborate professionally with multiple teams.
* Strong critical thinking skills to resolve issues and prioritize demands.
