Job Description:

SUMMARY

Serves as the main certification and compliance officer for programs in the School of Education (SOE) related to state and federal licensing policies and regulations, under the direction of the Dean of the School of Education. Plays an important role on the SOE Leadership Team, providing a high level of service and appropriate guidance to students and faculty to help ensure a high-quality academic program and successful student outcomes. Position is 28.5 hrs./wk., 12 months.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reviews, monitors, and interprets Michigan Department of Education (MDE) certification and licensing policies, rules, and state and federal regulations (i.e. attends MDE meetings and maintains frequent communication with the MDE for guidance).

Plans, establishes, implements, and evaluates SOE policies and procedures to maintain compliance with the Michigan Department of Education.

Communicates changes related to certification practices and guidelines to constituents in a timely manner.

Submits new programs and program changes to the Michigan Department of Education, as directed by the Dean.

Serves as a voting member of the School of Education Leadership Team, evaluating student petitions as well as student readiness for School of Education admission and student teaching internship.

Addresses all inquiries about initial certification, certification renewal, and addition of endorsements to certificates.

Advises education students throughout their programs about certification policies/procedures.

Collects, maintains, and audits documentation required for student teaching and certification (First Aid/CPR, criminal history checks, substitute permits, MTTC scores, OPI scores, etc.)

Maintains student criminal history checks and self-reporting questionnaires for all students participating in Pk-12 site-based experiences.

Develops timelines and project goals for state and national reporting regarding licensing and certification programs and candidates (Executive Team certification reports, MTTC verification reports, MTTC score reporting, CAEP reports, Title II)

Updates the SOE Student Guide updates the SOE's portions of the Academic Catalogs, under the direction of the Dean.

Works closely and collaboratively with SOE faculty and staff and assists with SOE events and projects as requested.

Assists with University Commencement activities as requested.

Other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Education

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibilities expected.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Meticulous attention to detail is essential. Well-organized and self-directed, with the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills. Proficient computer skills with experience with word, excel, and powerpoint. Experience with Blackboard or another Learning Management System is helpful. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree required from an accredited institution, with a major in an education field preferred. Master's degree in an educational field preferred. Certification to teach or experience in the K-12 or university environment is desirable. Evidence of excellent customer service skills.

Experience working in multicultural academic environments preferred and individuals from diverse populations are encouraged to apply.
