DescriptionResponsible for direction and coordination of diabetic education for patients and families who have been identified as being able to benefit from diabetic education. Activities include oversight of all teaching materials, class planning and group planning. Ensures that services are of the best quality, are cost contained and are carried out in an expeditious manner. Maintains effective physician and intradepartmental relations and is responsible for activities and participates in PI activities. Supervises and coordinates all facets of the Diabetic Program. Acts as a resource for issues relating to diabetic education to all age groups in the community.RequirementsMaintains Diabetic Educator CertificationGraduate of an accredited School of NursingCurrent Registered Nursing License in State of ColoradoMinimum of 5 years of acute care nursingBSN/BS preferredEducation and understanding in all age groups ranging from newborn to the geriatric population obtained either in school education or subsequent trainingAbility to read and communicate effectively in EnglishAdditional languages preferredBasic computer knowledgeAbility to work with mathematical conceptsAbility to make presentations to various groupsPHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:Intermittent movement throughout the hospitalAbility to lift up to 30% of your body weight not to exceed 50 poundsAbility to read and understand EnglishAbility to communicate verbally and in writingAbility to interact with patients, families and staff in a professional manner.Ability to remain calm in crisis situations
