Job Overview:

As a Certified Medical Assistant, the responsibilities include ensuring the patient's comfort, supporting the Registered Nurse, monitoring vital signs, maintain unit supplies, and clerical duties as assigned. The CMA will cross train to other units of the cancer center and float as needed.

Qualifications:

Required:

• HS Diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an accredited program in Medical Assisting
• Basic computer skills

Preferred:

• At least one year of applicable work experience

Certifications and Licenses Required:

• Certified Medical Assistant
• BLS through the American Heart Association

Scheduling Requirements:

• Shift working, 7:00 3:30pm each day
• FT

Essential Functions:

• Assist the department specialists (i.e. RNs, Radiation Therapists, etc.) in monitoring patient status and comfort in order to keep the department functioning smoothly
• Monitors vital signs and intake/output
• Recognizes abnormal vital signs data and verbally reports same directly to the RN caring for the patient
• Orient patient with room
• Monitors patient comfort
• Cleans, restocks supply carts and discards expired items
• Enters charges in SMS, schedules surgeries and obtains authorizations
• Maintains general orderliness at end of patient day
• May disinfect IV pumps/equipment according to set procedures
