Responsibilities
The Medical Assistant will be responsible to assist the Medical Department Head, physicians, nurse practitioner, medical residents and medical students in providing diagnostic and therapeutic comprehensive medical services to patients with Intellectual Disabilities. This role requires knowledge over multiple spaces including:
· Perform interdisciplinary intake screenings
· Clean and sanitize patient exam rooms before and after each patient visit
· Notify providers of any medical or behavioral alerts, updates in medical history or any new issues that require their attention.
· Verify appropriate consents are signed prior to treatment
· Escort patients to exam rooms, take vitals as well as obtain and process labs as needed.
· Assist with medical emergencies in clinic
· Assist with referrals as needed
· Upon completion of visit, review and verify provider's note
· Dismiss patient and provide oral and written patient visit summary to patient, caregiver and/or guardian as instructed by provider.
· Stock exam rooms at end of each day and also aid in ordering of supplies
· Mentor medical assistant students
Requirements
· Medical Assistant certification-Phlebotomy certification preferred
· Minimum 2 years' experience in medical assisting
· Experience with patients with Intellectual Disabilities
