Perform other diverse duties as requested or requiredEssential Job FunctionsComputer Systems: Allscripts Professional PM and EHR, Scanner, Email and Website, Microsoft Word and Excel, and MyChart.Primary Duties:Direct and indirect patient care services that ensure the safety, comfort, and protection of patients. The performance of skin tests, injections, and withdrawal of human blood from veins as level of training permits. The observation of signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to treatment, general behavior or general physical condition, the implementation of appropriate reporting or referral, and the initiation of emergency procedures. Direct and indirect patient care services necessary to implement a treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative regimen ordered by a physician. If an activity overlaps the practice of medicine, the medical assistant may perform the function only if there is an approved standardized procedure or standing order in place. Assist with nursing/nursing calls and precerts and referrals during down time. Monitor inventory of clinical supplies and ordering of supplies based on clinical need.Triage: Bring patients to the appropriate room. Do an initial triage including but not limited to vital signs and patient history information. Follow physician protocols and obtain all requested information from the patient or appropriate family member.Orders: Order all appropriate testing including in-house lab work and x-rays as guided by physician protocol.Test Results: Ensure all results and reports from either in-house testing or outside testing is in the chart prior to the physician seeing the patient or according to the physician's request.Procedures: Practice only within the guidelines as permitted by your license and state regulations. Assist physicians and other staff with all procedures as directed. Follow appropriate protocol to ensure the patients health and safety. Administer medications and appropriate care based upon physician orders.Discharge: After the physician has completed the examination of the patient and following physician orders, deliver the appropriate medications, instructions, handouts, and answer any questions the patient may have regarding their care.Phones: Utilize phone system properly, answer phones in a courteous manner, quickly identify caller's needs, route calls appropriately, create complete flag and phone notes and route appropriately. Reply to all phone notes and flags in a timely manner. Respond to all patient questions and requests within physician protocol or under their specific direction.Communication:Communicate with all staff, patients, and referring offices using phones, EMR flags and phone notes, and secure messaging and Company email; utilizing each method when appropriate. Follow up and seek resolution to complaints per policy and reports them to a supervisor and office manager. Report all incidents as per policy.Marginal Job Functions
