The Arc Eastern Connecticut has been providing services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities for more than 60 years. We provide residential, daytime, employment, and social support to people with IDD and their families. Come join our team!Description:The Certified Nursing Assistant performs nursing procedures and patient care tasks. She/He will ensure compliance with all state and regulatory reporting requirements. Will present staff in-services relating to medications and nursing issues. They will ensure compliance with all state and regulatory reporting requirements.Essential Functions:Ensures confidentiality as required by Law, The Arc ECT, and DDS policies and procedures which includes keeping records, conversations, correspondence (regarding program participants and staff) confidential.Expectations:Providing nursing care in post-acute care facilitiesChecking vital signs such as blood pressure and pulse and providing regular reports to the broader nursing teamObserving the conditions of residents on an ongoing basis, alerting supervising staff to any concerns or emergenciesHelping residents perform activities of daily living (ADLs), such as toileting, grooming, personal hygiene, and feeding. This may include providing and clearing bedpans and urinals, providing baths, backrubs, shampoos, and shaves, and assisting participants with showers.Assists with meals and feeds participants. Ambulates, turns, and positions participants. Provides fresh water and nourishment between meals.Changing linens, sanitizing surfaces, and performing other tasks to provide a clean and sanitary environment for residents.Serving as an important go-between for residents and healthcare staffStaying engaged with residents and offering daily companionship and comfort.Communicating with family members and other visitors and helping to address their concerns.Moving residents safely and comfortably to and from exam tables, beds, and wheelchairs, repositioning them as neededAdministers enemas, douches, nonsterile dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, heat treatments, sitz and therapeutic baths, and applies restraints.Instills confidence in residents by maintaining a neat appearance and performing duties in a competent and caring manner.Reports observations of participants to the nurse caring for the resident to ensure professional assessment.Required Responsibilities:Shows dependability by being punctual; maintains consistent attendance.Maintains a safe environment for participants and co-workers, transports participants and equipment as appropriate.Minimum Qualifications:Prior experience working with people who have developmental and physical disabilities preferred.Must have the ability to mentor and assist people in all areas of life skills including recreation, independence, communication, and health.Valid driver's license required.High School Diploma or GED RequiredApplicants must possess basic computer aptitude and be able to speak/write in English.Experienced with Department of Developmental Services regulations, forms, and protocols.Proficiency with Microsoft Office suitCurrent State of CT CNA LicenseKnowledge of medical terms and basic nursing care proceduresStrong observational skills and a high level of attention to detailsWill be required to participate in lifts, transfers, and behavioral or physical intervention during emergency situations.May be exposed to the risk of injury or exposure to occupational health hazards.The CNA must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.Prolonged periods of standing and walking.Benefits:Dental insuranceEmployee assistance programHealth insuranceLife insurancePaid time offReferral programSchedule:Sat-Tues 10pm-8amWork Location:Danielson, CTIf you:Appreciate paid training while you get state certified.Can use medical, dental and life insurance.Would enjoy getting 11 recognized holidays off and paid each year.Earn paid vacation and paid sick leave; andWe can start you working and earning towards your employment goal.Opportunities for advancement are offered.Helping others is a reward that will stay with you the rest of your life.The Arc Eastern Connecticut is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
