Bond Health - Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) needed in BrooklynWell-staffed Nursing and Rehabilitation CenterJOB DESCRIPTION:The Certified Nursing Assistant works directly under the supervision of the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and performs duties in a relation to the personal needs of the resident, care of supplies and equipment, and maintaining the cleanliness, comfort and safety of the resident in his/her environment.REPORTS TO: Charge Nurse, Supervisor and Director of Nursing Services (DNS)
- Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to write legibly.
- Physically able to perform the required duties of a Certified Nursing Assistant.
- Experience as a Nursing Assistant in an acute care or long-term care setting.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Residents
- Provides or assists with bed bath, tub bath, whirlpool and showers. (Supervises safety of same.)
- Provides personal grooming: i.e. hair, nails, shaving, personal clothing, mouth care, perineal care.
- Prepares laundry for pick-up and return.
- Checks resident's body for skin care: i.e. rash, any discoloration or edema.
- Feeding and Assisting with Feeding (when necessary)
- Provides calm, pleasant environment.
- Engages in cluster feeding while seated.
- Monitors daily intake and keeps nurses informed.
- Records food intake on Nutrition Work Sheet.
- Making Beds
- Uses recommended amount of linen and diapers.
- Disposes of linen in proper manner.
- Properly utilizes clean and dirty linen carts.
- Secures call bells to bed.
- Beds are made in proper manner.
- Knowledgeable in procedure for linen precaution.
Safety of Residents:
- Restraints are to be properly applied and released and removed every two (2) hours for at least 15 minutes.
- Make sure, if restraint is used, that it was indicated on assignment and the proper type is applied.
- Restraints are checked at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Supervises ambulation of resident when needed.
- Proper attention is given that side rails are up on bed when needed.
- Completes dining room duty as posted by charge nurse.
- Is alert for spills on floor.
- Answers call bells as soon as possible.
- Makes rounds frequently.
- Reports need for repair and safety matters to charge nurse.
To Ascertain Vital Signs
- Follows procedure in taking TPR correctly.
- Adheres to the proper procedure for cleaning thermometers/IVAC.
Rehabilitation
- Assists in ambulation, transfers, ROM exercises and good body alignment where indicated.
- Uses adaptive devices properly.
- Cooperates with all rehab disciplines.
- Keeps accountability sheets up to date with signatures as required.
Testing of Urine and Collecting of Specimens
- Has knowledge of proper procedure.
- Records results.
- Informs nurse of results.
Assignments
- Receives daily report from nurse.
- Consults assignment for special duties and sets proper priorities for following through on assignment.
- Is familiar with and takes proper action in meeting physical needs of resident.
- Routinely checks and keeps in order all residents' belongings: i.e. clothing, glasses, hearing aid, prosthesis aid, adaptive devices, etc.
- Ensures that residents on turning schedule is positioned every two hours or as ordered, and documented.
- Ensures that residents on toileting schedule are assisted as needed, and documented.
- Resident is kept clean and dry.
- Gives assistance to co-workers when needed.
- Uses good handwashing techniques.
Cooperation
- Works well with co-workers and supervisors.
- Maintains appropriate relationship with residents, families and peers.
- Gives assistance to other departments: i.e. recreation, when necessary.
- Communicates well with other staff members.
License:
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) (Required)
- CPR (Preferred)
