Join us in making a difference every day in the lives of those we serve.General Summary :The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides basic nursing care activities under the direction of the Charge Nurse (RN), Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), provider, etc. in the MS Unit within his/her scope of practice (RCW 18.360.050). The CNA assists the provider, RN's, LPN or other nursing staff with: daily care of the patient, collecting patient information, communicating key information to the RN, LPN or provider, and anticipates/acts on needs of the patient proactively. The CNA demonstrates excellence in customer service during interactions with patients, families and other customers and works collaboratively with colleagues and departments throughout the organization to provide optimal outcomes for our patients in a compassionate, professional, ethical and knowledgeable fashion. May provide necessary routine clerical support for the nursing unit and perform unit secretary duties if needed. The CNA is aware of the potential exposure to internal and external hazardous materials, including but not limited to: blood and blood borne pathogens, infectious/communicable diseases, potential physical injury while caring for patients. Maintains a safe and clean environment for the care of the patient.QualificationsMinimum Education, Training & Experience (includes licenses or certifications):Safety Sensitive per WA SB5123: NoEducation / Licensure:* High school diploma or GED required.* Completion of CNA training program.* Current Washington State Certified Nursing Assistant certification.* Current BLS certification required.* Knowledge/comprehension of basic medical terminology required.* Basic computer skills required.Experience:* At least one (1) year recent full-time experience providing direct patient care in an outpatient or acute care medical setting preferred.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):* Supports the mission, vision and values of the organization.* Provides basic nursing care for patients including, but not limited to: vital signs, personal hygiene/skincare, ADL's, monitors Intake and Output (I&O), makes/changes bed linen, answers call lights to determine patient needs, ambulates/assists patient as needed, lifts/turns/moves patient as needed following proper procedure, etc. to ensure quality patient care.* Provides care appropriate for the condition and age of the patient, including: pediatric, geratic and general population and maintains awareness of patient needs based on age specific factors, as well as being aware of the patient's physical and psychosocial needs.* Reports any changes in patient status or condition to the supervising RN, physician/provider, etc. to ensure patient comfort and safety, notifies the RN/physician/provider when patient complains of pain or discomfort.* Documents all patient care activities and changes in patient condition consistent with nursing policy and procedure; gives detailed report at the end of shift/assignment to supervisory RN and/or other nursing staff.* Consults with other department staff as appropriate to provide for interdisciplinary approach to patient care; and communicates clearly (both written and verbal) with charge nurse, co-workers and physician/provider to ensure the care needs of the patient are met.* Follows hospital policy when disposing of biohazardous materials, labelling and handling of materials.* Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medication/health care errors, is accountable for each specific patient assigned.* Will provide and document activities to transitional care patients in absence of Activities Coordinator.* Performs new nursing techniques or procedures after successful demonstration of competencies.* May assist other nursing staff in maintaining patient charts.* Provides clerical assistance for the nursing unit, including but not limited to: transcribing practitioner orders to MedAct, answering phones, entering orders/patient demographics/changes into CPSI system, maintaining patient census and other patient logs, etc.* Completes initial and annual competencies.* Participates in quality and performance improvement (PI) process.* Complies with all hospital policy and procedures, while upholding the high expectations of KVH.* Attends a minimum of 80% of nursing staffing meetings and 100% of mandatory in-services.* Floats to other areas as needed.* Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
