Under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, provides occupational therapy treatment as established by the Occupational Therapist to meet specific measurable goals. Reports to the Clinical Coordinator.
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Assists the Occupational Therapist during patient testing, evaluations and procedures. Carries out a treatment program for assigned patients, as determined by the evaluation performed by the Occupational Therapist. Designs and fits adaptive devices such as splints, braces, ADL devices and tools based on patient disability and rehabilitation needs. Teaches patients/family the skills and techniques required for participation in Occupational Therapy, adapting the instruction and techniques to meet the comprehension level of the patients/family. Reports any changes in a patient's condition to the supervising Occupational Therapist and assists in updating treatment plans. Maintains adequate records within the medical record regarding patient responses to treatment techniques. Maintains communication with physicians, via verbal and written reports, regarding patient treatment. Supervises Rehabilitation Technicians and Aides appropriately. Conducts or participates in Inservice training as needed for other hospital personnel. Participates in educational programs and Inservice meetings. Attends meetings as required. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
* Associate's degree and graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapist Assistant program required.Prior training or experience in related environment is preferred.Employee must demonstrate ability to recognize patients' individual needs based on medical conditions, age (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, young adults, middle-aged and geriatric), limitations and planned procedures.
