Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Cardiopulmonary Director/Manager, the Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing Cardiopulmonary care services in accordance with specific physician orders, department policies and procedures. The Respiratory Therapist administers respiratory care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system, performs diagnostic tests of the cardiovascular and pulmonary system to aid physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of heart and lung disorders.
Job Requirements / Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program
Experience: 1 year preferred
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Current licensure in the state of Tennessee as an Certified Respiratory Therapist; ABG endorsed
BLS [required upon hire/transfer]
ACLS [required within 6 months of hire/transfer]
PALS [required within 6 months of hire/transfer]

Demonstrates the ability to….
Collaborate with the patient/family, systematically and continually assess the patient's health. Able to demonstrate appropriate application of age specific standards, policies and procedures, and guidelines in assessing of the ages served. For the ages served, assess, monitors, treats, documents, and interprets data in the following modalities:
EKG Lead Placement/Retrieval
ABG Collection
Medication Dosage
Oxygen delivery, cannulas, masks
Aerosolized medication delivery
Mechanical Ventilator
Bipap/CPAP
Assist with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
Utilizes a standard data collection tool in Meditech to maintain on-going monitoring/assessment of assigned patients for all modalities.
Completes ongoing patient assessment and documents according to policy, before and after therapy.
Participates in the development of patient plan of care to include
Patient problems, cultural needs, goals, evaluations and interventions.
Reports symptoms and significant changes in the patient's condition to appropriate personnel including physician.
Re-assesses available information to evaluate effectiveness of
Teaches to produce desired patient outcomes and makes adjustments in teaching of patients as indicated.
Effectively and efficiently utilizes supplies and equipment.
Organizes and prioritizes care for optimal time management.
Checks patient charts for order accuracy and signs off all RT orders.
Performs PFT's and appropriate paper work as assigned.
Setup Holter/Event Monitor and appropriate paper work as assigned.
