We are currently seeking ualified candidates for the position of Veterinary Technician. This position reports to the Practice Manager in Heidi's Village Veterinary Center in Phoenix and is available immediately. SUMMARY: Our Veterinary Technicians assist in multiple procedures providing care for animals including physical examinations, dental procedures, immunizations, surgeries, intake/discharge of patients and inventory maintenance. This position requires a working knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs, common diseases; their symptoms, means of transmission, treatment and prevention, and other basic preventative health care recommendations. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Must be able to effectively communicate with and educate clients on their patient's procedures, outcomes, medications and preventative. Must be familiar with operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting in house lab equipment. Bonus if is familiar with IDEXX in house lab machines. Skilled in proper radiographic technique and positioning, safety protocols and regulations regarding radiation exposure. Strong background and knowledge of surgical procedures, maintaining a sterile environment, anesthetic induction, intubation, monitoring and recovery. Needs to know how to operate, maintain and troubleshoot anesthetic equipment. Proficient in dental prophylaxis and dental radiographs Understands pharmaceutical drug classifications, uses, contraindication, drug calculations and conversions as well as routes of administration. Knowledgeable in hospital safety protocols and OSHA regulations. Must be familiar with isolation protocols and infectious disease transmission in a shelter setting. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Certified veterinary techician in the state of Arizona preferred - years of experience as a vet tech will be considered in lieu of license. 6 months working/volunteering with domestic animals in an animal shelter, veterinary hospital, or another animal facility preferred. NOTE: Any applicable volunteer or work experience should be listed and include hours worked and job duties. Priority consideration will be given to candidates with 6-12 months of surgery experience.
