Overview:

The Company manufactures and is a leader in its industry, operating at 5 locations (3 in Scotland, 1 in North East England, and 1 in Wales). A Territory Manager leads the business in Scotland with Plant Managers in England and Wales reporting directly to the Chief Executive. The Chief Executive has delegated a lot of responsibility to his direct reports who are supported by a small Head Office Function.

The business has grown rapidly in recent years and its financial performance is very strong, with good potential for further growth through organic means. Given the recent growth and the intention to sell the business in the short to medium term, the shareholders are looking for a Finance Director with a strong commercial focus who will bring significant value to the business.

Job Specification:

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Director of Finance will lead the Finance, Accounting, and Administration Team. The Director of Finance will oversee all aspects of the accounting function, including responsibility for management and statutory reporting, IT systems, factory accounting, budgeting/forecasting, process improvement, and internal controls. This role will have a strong commercial focus, working closely with the Plant Managers and providing commercial support to the Chief Executive, including engagement with suppliers and customers to facilitate business growth.

The Director of Finance will also play a key role in preparing the business for a potential sale within a 3-year timeframe, which includes appointing professional advisers, preparing information for inclusion in the data room, and meeting with and presenting to potential purchasers of the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain timely monthly management accounts and annual Financial Statements to a high standard.
  • Work closely with the CEO in the preparation of financial projections and the annual budgeting process.
  • Develop, mentor, and motivate the finance team towards achieving both departmental and company goals.
  • Lead IT Systems development, working in a cross-functional team to identify requirements, gaps, and opportunities to maximize the use of existing ERP. Drive implementation of agreed-upon changes and developments.
  • Safeguard assets and ensure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing internal audits, controls, and checks across all departments.
  • Engage and support the Chief Executive and Plant Managers to improve the commercial performance of the business.
  • Collaborate closely with the Chief Executive to prepare the business for a sale process, including a key role in appointing and working with professional advisers, preparing a data room, and engaging with potential purchasers of the business.

Candidate Profile:

  • University degree specializing in accounting, finance, business, or equivalent.
  • Qualified Accountant (Chartered or Cost and Management Accountant).
  • Manufacturing experience (cost accounting, factory reporting).
  • Minimum 3 years of Director of Finance/Accounting Manager experience.
  • Strong business acumen with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all members of the Management team and visit all plants across the Group frequently.
  • Ability to develop and manage a high-performance team focused on accountability and exceeding expectations, requiring on-site work at least 4 days each week.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize projects, and provide follow-up with strong attention to detail.
  • Good experience with IT systems implementation and development.
  • Excellent decision-making skills, including information gathering and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated focus on results and business/process improvements with a customer-focused mentality.
