CHA II - Meal on Wheels Driver/Cook

Hourly Wage: $15.92/Regular/Full-Time

Primary duties include packing and delivering meals to homebound individuals on a designated route. Assists in the cooking and delivery of meals for the Meals on Wheels program; maintains weekly meal counts of delivered meals or congregate meals; reports any unusual client status to Direct Services Coordinator. Maintains accurate, up-to-date records trip logs, vehicle maintenance log, fuel purchases receipts, incident reports, accident reports, vehicle condition reports and other records that are requested from management. Inspects vehicles daily and when observed, reports any required vehicle maintenance and repairs. Performs a variety of duties to assist with meal preparation, meals service, and clean up. Assists in routine sanitation, including cleaning and maintaining equipment, food preparation areas and storage areas.

Examples of Work Performed:

Works with the service coordinator to determine most efficient route to deliver hot meals in a timely manner.

Shares information about needed food and supplies for each meal site and home delivered meals.

Assists with coordinating the delivery of supplies and food in the most efficient and effective manner to meal site.

Assists with cooking and packaging meals in the most efficient manner using electric or gas stove. Checks the temperature of food while cooking to assure food safety. Keeps the foods at the correct temperature while maintaining cleanliness of the food transport equipment.

Assists the congregate meal program cooks in maintaining a clean workstation after meals are delivered and assists in maintaining the bathrooms and elder activity rooms.

Assists in maintaining kitchen equipment in a safe manner and reports any needed repairs or replacement of kitchen and program equipment.

Maintains delivery vehicle and drives obeying all laws. Reports accidents, rock chips, traffic citations, vehicle maintenance as soon as the incident occurs.

Assures quality of frozen meals by regularly rotating inventory.

Initials off on the meal preparation dates prior to freezing and adheres to food safety and cleanliness standards.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of food health and safety regulations kitchen equipment, food storage, and rotating inventory

Knowledge of Yakama Reservation, its' Customs and Culture.

Excellent customer service skills.

Skills in working with the elderly and disabled individuals.

Ability to adhere to the chain of command and receive direction from supervisor and lead cooks.

Ability to work independently and use good judgement.

Ability to be a team player and work effectively with coworkers and the general public.

Ability to obtain assistance in an emergency condition.

Ability to be sensitive to the needs of elder and handicap persons and to provide them with information.

Ability to work with divers populations (ethnic, economic, age, gender).

Ability to adhere to guidelines on confidentiality and follow procedures.

Ability to effectively develop working relationships with personnel, clients and the general public.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Minimum Requirements:

High School diploma or GED.

Two years of experience cooking for large groups and sing commercial equipment for large-scale food operations.

Required to pass pre-employment drug test.

Required to pass Washington State background check per DSHS/ALTSA requirements.

Must have Washington State Food Handlers Card, First Aid/CPR/AED Card or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.

Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.

Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Requirements:

Complete Defensive Driving Course.
