Eastern Illinois University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, Chairperson for the Department of Human Services to begin July 1, 2025 (academic rank to be determined based on qualifications). Under the direction of the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services, the Chairperson serves as the chief administrative and academic officer of the department with primary responsibility for the leadership, supervision, coordination, and administration of programs and activities of the department in a shared governance environment.

The Department of Human Services offers a Bachelor of Science Degree with online and face to face degree programs and four minors (Aging Studies, Early Childhood Program Administration, Financial Literacy, and Human Services).

Primary Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

* Develop, review, and lead the implementation of the department's mission

* Provide leadership on curriculum, instruction, and academic advising

* Promote diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence among faculty, staff, and students in the department

* Facilitate communications among department, college, university, community, and alumni stakeholders

* Recruit, make recommendations for hiring, supervise, and evaluate high quality faculty and staff

* Encourage professional development of faculty

* Facilitate student recruitment and marketing

* Manage financial resources to accomplish the department's mission

* Oversee the administration of departmental scholarship funds

* Teach one course with the department per semester

Qualifications: Required qualifications include a doctorate and a degree in a discipline represented within the Department (e.g., Human Services, Human Development and Family Studies, or Social Work), leadership experience, excellent written and oral communication skills, and evidence of achievement in teaching, research, and service. A successful candidate will demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to lead the faculty through collegial processes in the Department. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusive excellence is required.
