Job Description:
Marietta College invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Petroleum Engineering and Geology. This is a full time, tenure-eligible or tenure track faculty position to begin no later than August 2025. The Petroleum Engineering program at Marietta College is accredited by the EAC of ABET. The faculty and staff of the Department consists of five engineers and three geologists who are committed to collaboration across programs and areas of study. As the only Petroleum Engineering Program housed in a small, private college, the department seeks candidates with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching in the spirit of a broad liberal arts education. We value the mentoring of undergraduate students, teaching excellence, experiential learning, and the professional development of our students.
The Department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Petroleum Engineering and Geology, as well as undergraduate minors in Energy Systems, Geology, and Petroleum Engineering. In addition, the Geology faculty support an inter-disciplinary Environmental Science program. The Petroleum Engineering program currently enrolls approximately 60 students and Geology enrolls about 25. A priority for the new Chair will be to partner actively across campus and within the industry to support program growth and student retention and success.
Job Description:
Marietta College seeks an experienced petroleum engineer who is dynamic, enthusiastic, and preferably has a proven record of collaboration and excellence in Petroleum Engineering education.
Responsibilities of this position include:
* Comprehensive departmental organization and administration
* Accreditation maintenance and continuous program improvement
* Partnership with the admissions team to support program recruitment and enrollment
* Support student success and retention
* Fiscal management, budget and grant development
* Mentorship and evaluation of faculty
* Scholarly activities
* Coordination of the Department's Industry Advisory Committee
* Facilitation of student placement in internships and full-time positions through an industry network
* Active engagement with the Society of Petroleum Engineers and industry partners
* Service to the college and community.
The Department Chair reports directly to the Provost of the College. This is a full-time (9-month) position with an additional stipend paid for Chair duties and modest summer duties.
While professional development and scholarly achievements are valued, the primary focus of the Marietta College faculty is on undergraduate education, including classroom instruction, student advising, and student mentoring.
Requirements:
Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited petroleum engineering program, hold a PhD degree or a master's degree in petroleum engineering or a closely related engineering or science discipline, and have significant industry experience and connections. The program has teaching needs in production engineering and completions; the new hire must be able to provide this expertise. Teaching experience is preferred as is professional engineering registration.
