Position Purpose

Under the guidance and direction of the Championships & Events Manager, the Championship, Sports and Events Associate assists with the execution of the following areas:

  • Championship planning and logistics for assigned sports
  • Planning and oversight of non-championship events
  • Coordination and collaboration with governance-related projects
  • Duties and Responsibilities

    The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Execute all aspects of assigned championships planning and logistics.
  • Execute a minimum of five host calls for each championship event.
  • Coordinate with other members of the National Office staff to ensure all championship planning criteria are met.
  • Maintain checklists in Teams to keep planning up-to-date.
  • In collaboration with the host site and marketing/communications team, prepare Pre-Tournament/Championship Packets for select NJCAA Championships.
  • Attend assigned NJCAA championship events and be the on-site point of contact for any championship related questions from coaches, athletic directors and National Office Staff.
  • Support all non-championship event planning and management as requested.
  • Serve as primary liaison to sport committees for championship related material.
  • Maintain accurate championship calendar with communications associate which includes District dates and Hall of Fame nomination deadlines.
  • Ensure accurate, timely coordination with external vendors and hosts/teams (i.e. Levy, Fine Designs, Hudl, Baron, etc.).
  • Assist with compilation of bid/site selection materials.
  • May assist with evaluation of current and emerging sports.
  • May assist divisional commitment evaluation.
  • Other Duties Assigned.
  • Minimum Requirements

    Associate degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

    Some professional experience in a field related to intercollegiate athletics is preferred.

    Demonstrated customer service, organization, leadership, planning, and conflict management skills.

    A good command of Microsoft Office.

    The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to establish positive public relations and to interact effectively with staff, member colleges, athletic directors, and student-athletes.

    The ability to establish and maintain collaborative, effective working relationships with team members, member colleges, athletic directors, student-athletes and the public.

    Problem-solving skills, judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in evaluating information.

    The ability to write effectively and efficiently.

    The ability to work as an individual and as part of a team.
