THIS IS A NON-CIVIL SERVICE POSITION

POSTING DATE: 10/29/2024

SALARY RANGE: $15.00 - $30.00 Hourly

BACKGROUND CHECK: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening and must be successfully completed.

PROBATION: All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Baltimore city Department of Recreation and parks is seeking to fill multiple part-time (20-30 hours per week) seasonal (November 25, 2024 through January 2, 2025) staff to work various positions for our charm city lights event. we are seeking to fill the following positions: Team lead; ticket booth attendant; traffic control officers; incident management; communication; manage crossing; walk/bike night attendants; floaters; and parking attendants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Team Lead - Responsibilities:

* On-site Management: Lead staff during run of show, ensuring all roles are fulfilled and everything runs smoothly.

* Problem Solving: Address any issues or conflicts that arise during the event, including those related to staff or attendee concerns.

* Staff Support: Provide guidance and support to all staff members, including clock-in and clock out procedures. Ensure all staff receive lunch breaks.

* Safety Compliance: Ensure all safety protocols are followed and coordinate with emergency services if needed.

* Reporting: Provide feedback and a summary of the event after completion, including any issues or recommendations for improvement.

* Coordination: Work closely with traffic control and ticket booth attendants to manage the flow of vehicles and foot traffic.

2. Ticket Booth Attendant - Responsibilities:

* Ticket Collection: Manage the collection of tickets at the entrance. Ensure a smooth and efficient process for guests.

* Customer Service: Provide information about the event, answer questions, and handle any ticketing issues or concerns.

* Ticket Validation: Verify tickets and wristbands as necessary.

3. Traffic Control Officers - Responsibilities:

* Traffic Management: Direct vehicle flow in and out of the event area to prevent congestion and ensure a smooth operation.

* Safety: Ensure that vehicles follow safety protocols, including speed limits and appropriate spacing.

* Incident Management: Address any traffic-related issues or incidents, including accidents or bottlenecks.

* Communication: Coordinate with other staff members to ensure effective communication regarding traffic conditions and updates.

* Manage Crossings: Safely manage pedestrian and cyclist crossings at intersections or busy roads. Ensure participants wait for traffic or guide them when it's safe to proceed.

4. Walk/Bike Night Attendants - Responsibilities:

* Setup and Check-In: Prepare and set up all stations needed during pedestrian nights, to include any equipment, supplies, ingredients, etc. Distribute wristbands to attendees for Bowl entry.

* Service: Serve hot chocolate and any other beverages or snacks to guests, ensuring high standards of hygiene and quality. Man activations.

* Bike Rentals: Assist with distribution of bikes during bike nights.

* Provide Directions: Guide participants to starting points, routes, or parking areas. Answer questions about the event route and schedule. Ensure smooth flow of participants by directing walkers and bikers to their respective paths or lanes.

* Route Monitoring: Station along the route to guide participants and ensure they stay on the designated paths. Prevent them from veering into areas not part of the event.

* Keep Bike and Walk Paths Clear: Ensure that participants follow the correct routes and prevent overcrowding or congestion in certain areas.

* Emergency Support: Alert event security or emergency services in case of an accident, injury, or other emergencies along the route.

* Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels and manage stock to ensure there is enough product for the duration of the event.

* Customer Interaction: Provide friendly and efficient service to guests, answering questions and handling any issues that arise.

5. Floaters - Responsibilities:

* Pre-Event Setup: Ensure all light displays and decorations are properly set up and functioning before the event begins. Report any issues to Parks team.

* Provide breaks for staffing assist where needed.

* Signage: Ensure all signage is visible and provides clear instructions for drivers or walkers.

* Provide assistance where needed, will float between all workstations.

6. Parking Attendants - Responsibilities:

Guiding Vehicles to Parking Spots:

* Direct vehicles to available parking spaces efficiently.

* Ensure optimal use of parking space by guiding drivers to park properly and maximize capacity.

* Manage traffic flow within the parking lot or area to prevent congestion.

Managing Parking Lot Access:

* Monitor entry and exit points to ensure only authorized vehicles are allowed.

* Control access to reserved or VIP parking areas.

Greeting and Assisting Drivers:

* Provide a friendly, welcoming experience by greeting drivers as they arrive.

* Offer directions or assistance to visitors who may be unfamiliar with the facility or event location.

* Answer questions related to parking fees, rules, or nearby amenities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED equivalent recommended.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

* Ability to receive, understand and execute directions issued and excellent customer service skills.
