Job Summary: This position is responsible for Day 2 functions of check operations processing, including, but not limited to, the daily processing of all returned items, returned deposited items, resolving non-posted items, check adjustments, research/copy retrieval request completion, check retention and other storage management, check disputes, POD variance resolution, and other functions as assigned to check processing. Primary Duties:
  • Process non-posted items from previous day's posting and complete process to post correctly to customer and internal accounts in a timely manner.
  • Validate electronic submission of NSF and other return items to meet the required 24-hour requirement.
  • Process incoming returned deposited items and charge back to appropriate account in a timely manner.
  • Ensure NSF and chargeback notices are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Balance returned item and chargeback information daily.
  • Provide photocopies of items, transactions and statements for customers and business partners upon request.
  • Research customer and internal requests for posting or transaction information, or for corrections.
  • Research and adjust any cash letter discrepancies using Check 21 adjustments processes.
  • Research and adjust any errors on customer accounts in a timely manner.
  • Process the notice generation and mailing of customer proof corrections in a timely manner.
  • Handle on-us check retention according to Bell Bank retention policy.
  • Monitor department supplies inventory and ensure proper supplies are obtained in a timely manner.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for company projects.
  • Ensure functional procedures are current and up-to-date compared to daily processes.
  • Resolve processing issues by contacting appropriate vendors when necessary to maintain timelines.
  • Participate in project meetings and work on assigned projects.
  • Provide courteous, accurate, and prompt assistance to coworkers or customers regarding their accounts.
  • Follow established policies and procedures, accurately and efficiently to meet team quality standards.
  • Continually review daily workflow looking for improvements in production processing.
  • Work flexible hours to support the department needs to include after hours and weekends, if necessary.
  • Analyze and resolve technical problems quickly in a demanding environment while working with minimal supervision.
  • Re-scan rejected items as needed for job balancing.
  • Know by name and face as many customers and employees as possible, calling them by name as often as possible.

  • Conduct activities consistent with established Bell Bank policies, procedures and systems, the Bell Bank Employee Conduct policies, the Bank Secrecy Act and all applicable state and federal laws and regulations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Skills Required:
  • High school diploma; 2 year degree in accounting or business helpful.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet specific deadlines in a fast paced environment
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in using personal computers and related software programs including, but not limited to, Windows and Microsoft Office.
