  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Physical requirements to perform essential functions and tasks which may include exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 20 pounds of force as frequently as necessary; lifting, crawling, kneeling, bending, stooping, pulling, and pushing, if required
  • Completion of required athletic coaching courses to include First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Obtain Athletic Coaching Certification from the State of Florida during required timeline
  • Satisfactory clearance of a criminal history records check and drug screening
  • ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience preferred as an athletic coach or in the coaching arena PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Reports to athletic director and principal for specific responsibilities; must complete required duties as follows in a satisfactory, ethical, and professional manner as determined and assessed by athletic director or school-based administrator:
  • Administers all aspects of the activity within the District and individual school's Athletic Department policy
  • Administers all aspects of the activity within the guidelines of the Florida High School Activities Association and the National Federation Rules
  • Provides safekeeping/accounting for funds when responsible for program fees/collections
  • Demonstrates an adequate knowledge of the specific sports activity
    • Demonstrates a working knowledge of the sport and the strategies associated with the sport
    • Is up-to-date on rules and regulations regarding local and state guidelines
    • Keeps abreast of the latest safety and protective equipment practices
  • Provides for adequate practice time, organization, and delivery of instruction; effective student/coach interaction and management of practice and contest organization
    • Begins activity promptly
    • Stresses fundamentals
    • Provides appropriate coaching techniques for age levels
    • Organizes skill demonstrations
    • Maximizes use of practice time
    • Prepares practice plans in advance with clear objectives
    • Maximizes use of assistants
    • Organizes and manages contests
    • Stresses and practices health and safety at all times
  • Displays respect for administration, fellow coaches and the individual school's activities program in a manner that reflects dignity and loyalty to the organization
  • Displays a respect for participants in a professional, fair and equitable manner
  • Demonstrates effective use of communication skills in a clear, proper and professional manner
  • Maintains poise and composure relative to the emotional and stressful events attached to the activity; displays an appropriate self-appearance and is reliable and punctual for all practices and activities

  • Provides information in written form relative to the activity and processes it in an accurate and timely manner as requested or required. Information to be communicated or recorded may include but not be limited to:
    • Eligibility information or requirements
    • Scholastic and/or athletic achievement
    • Statistics
    • Awards
    • Equipment and/or uniform inventory
    • Scheduling informatin and/or recommendations
  • Organizes practice and game responsibilities that are clear and understood by all involved; provides specific duties for coaching throughout the program: primary and extra-duty assignment
