Job Type Part-timeDescriptionCheese, Beer & Wine AssistantSubstitute positionVaried hours per week, must be available 12 -8 and/or 9-5 some weekdays and weekendsThe Co-op frequently hires substitute employees to fill in for vacancies, both planned and unplanned. Substitutes earn an hourly wage (a minimum of $16.00 per hour), accrue a paid time off benefit, and are eligible for the employee discount on Co-op purchases. In addition, substitutes have preferred access over outside applicants to jobs with regular hours at the Co-op. Substitutes may work a range of hours up to 40 hours weekly, depending on the Co-op's need and the substitute's availability. The most common substitute positions are cashier, grocery clerk and prepared foods worker. The Co-op is a great place to work, and we would love to have you apply. Purpose: To help maintain the cheese and wine/beer department and to assist customers in purchasing cheese and wine/beer.Status: Reports to Food Services ManagerPay Level 1Responsibilities:
  • Be responsible for safety in the workplace by creating a safe work environment, reporting safety concerns to a manager or member of the Safety Committee, and adhering to safety rules and regulations.
  • Follow department policies and procedures.
Merchandising:
  • Maintain attractive, fully-stocked and rotated cheese displays.
  • Cut and package cheese for best yield and customer appeal.
  • Cut and slice cheese to order for customers.
  • Assist customers with questions, suggestions, and special orders for cheese, beer and wine.
  • Offer samples of cheese when needed.
  • Assist the deli staff in serving the deli counter.
  • Maintain attractive and fully stocked beer and wine displays.
  • Receive and put away cheese deliveries.
  • Attend cheese, beer and wine tasting events to augment knowledge of cheese, beer and wine.
Department Maintenance:
  • Ensure that items not sold are returned or otherwise properly disposed.
  • Maintain cheese, beer and wine displays, prep, and storage in clean and orderly condition, meeting health code standards.
  • Clean up and properly dispose of glass from broken beer and wine bottles.
  • Maintain department equipment in working order; monitor cooler temperatures and lighting.
  • Participate in preparation of periodic inventory.

  • Familiarity with foreign and domestic cheese helpful.

  • Ability to follow the safety policies and procedures of Hunger Mountain Co-op.
  • Ability to provide excellent service to customers, vendors and co-workers.
  • Ability to work well with others in a cooperative environment where teamwork and constant communication are essential.
  • Regular and punctual attendance.
  • Ability to be physically present onsite at the Co-op to perform the requirements of this position.
