Company Information RLE INTERNATIONAL is one of the worlds leading engineering and consultation service providers to the international mobility and energy industries Based on our engineering development and methodological expertise we claim thirty years of experience creating innovative and effective solutions for our international customers RLE believes in providing excellence in Engineering Services and supporting our customers in developing mobility solutions worldwide Locations in Europe North America Australia India and China allow us to remain close to our customers Our 2100 employees play an active role in shaping the future of our company by continuously increasing their personal and technical development The Advanced Emissions team within Vehicle Propulsion Systems Engineering is seeking a Chemist Chemical Engineer with a strong background is chemistry and understanding of catalyst function and durability for exhaust gas treatment of internal combustion engines Working to evaluate and investigate aftertreatment technologies in the laboratory environment at Ford Research & Innovation Center and on vehicle at Allen Park Test Laboratory to improve emission control for increasing stringent standards What youll do Characterization of materials for catalyst substrates particle filters and exhaust assemblies including SEM CTE shear strength porosimetry XRF XRD and BETPerforming catalytic activity evaluation of monolithic samples andor full size aftertreatment systemsBenchmarking supplier formulations for catalyst robustness and durabilityCollaborate with aftertreatment test engineers technical specialists and catalyst coaters and substrate suppliers on new concepts for aftertreatmentCollaborate with calibration teams suppliers and technical specialists to support root cause determination and prevent reoccurrence for warranty emission issues or post production in use concerns eg IUVPIUCPGeneral work to assemble and maintain reactor and catalyst assemblies for testing and demonstration of functionValidation of laboratory results on vehicle applications by dyno chassis rolls testing for emission demonstration and analysis of on vehicle functionAnalysis of vehicle emissions data to quantify sensitivity of tailpipe emissions to aftertreatment design parameters and operational noise factorsSkills Required Understanding of catalyst function failure modes and sensitivity to inputs and noise factorsExperience with chassis or engine dynamometer facilities and an understanding of their operations with respect to vehicle drive cycles emission reports and data collection using ATI VisionETASSound technical knowledge of regulated emission requirementsExcellent written and oral communication skills are requiredSkills Preferred Familiarity with programming software including LabVIEW and MATLABFamiliarity with emission measurement techniques including FID FTIR mass spectrometry and x ray analysisExperience Required 5 10 years of experience in the combustion engine emissions fieldExperience Preferred 5 years demonstrating ability to analyze plan and solve sophisticated system problems as they relate to engines and emissionsEducation Required Minimum BS in Physical Sciences or Engineering Chemistry Physics or Chemical EngineeringAdditional Information The catalyst experience we are looking for has to do with the chemical analysis of the exhaust gasesWe like to see that they have worked in a lab testing catalysis on synthetic gas benches and reactorsCandidates must have the following experience Understanding of catalyst function failure modes and sensitivity to inputs and noise factors
