City: Pasadena State: Texas SUMMARY: Maintain, trouble shoot and repair GC, GCMS, IC, etc. Responsible for SQC Charts of laboratory instruments. GC Chemist is expected to oversee the quality control systems necessary to ensure that information generated by the Laboratory is generated in accordance with business needs of the Branch and Region, and in conformance with the Companys Quality Management System. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Calibrate, maintain and operate analytical instrumentation, GC/MS, GC, FTIR, etc. Develop, validate and implement analytical methods (GC, IC, UV-VIS, etc.) and testing procedures in accordance to methodologies. (i.e. D3606, D5599, D4815, D5501, D6730 D6584, D2887, EN15721, EN14214, EN14110, etc.) Instrument operation and maintenance procedures for the laboratory instrumentation, which includes troubleshooting of instrument problems and instrument applications. Review and Maintain Quality Control (QC) records and other technical data. To document and train others in research methodologies. To evaluate continually the safety of laboratory working conditions and arrange for necessary corrections to be made. To adhere to professionalism and to the principles of the scientific method, basing decisions on education, experience, observation, and deduction. Monitoring, measuring, and assessing quality assurance practices and protocols for continual improvement. Assists where necessary troubleshooting instrumentation problems, SQC, calibrations, and quality assurance practices and protocols. To carry out the above responsibilities, and all others, which may be assigned, in a manner demonstrating support for and adherence to the Companys Safety Policy and Procedures, Quality Policy and Procedures, Ethics Policy, Environmental Management System, Vision and Strategy, and to exercise good judgment, common sense, and diplomacy in so doing. Approximately 15% of traveling is required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Bachelors Degree in Physical or Life Science. Three to five years related experience and/or training Equivalent combination of education and experience. Analytical method development and method validation experience with various lab instruments, especially HPLC and GC. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to properly interpret technical reports related to chemicals and their properties. Ability to interpret scientific formulas. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, AND REGISTRATIONS: Valid driver license required.
