Job Description:
As a Chemist in our Forensic Drug Analysis Lab, you'll work on diverse and challenging cases, conduct advanced chemical and instrumental analysis, and ensure the accuracy and security of critical evidence. You'll also contribute to lab improvements through grant writing and peer collaboration, making a real impact in public safety.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesWhat You'll Do:Analyze Evidence: Conduct chemical, instrumental, and microscopic analysis of physical evidence, interpret data, and prepare detailed laboratory reports.Ensure Lab Efficiency: Maintain lab instruments, troubleshoot issues, and perform preventative maintenance to ensure seamless operations.Maintain Safety: Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations, securing evidence during transport and maintaining accurate records in the RMS software system.Collaborate with Law Enforcement: Guide Sheriff's Department personnel on evidence handling and chain of custody protocols.Contribute to Court Proceedings: Testify in court to present analysis results and findings.Secure Funding: Collaborate with grants personnel to secure funding for lab improvements.Stay Informed: Attend professional workshops and review the latest literature to enhance your forensic knowledge and skills.Job Specifications and QualificationsWhat You Bring:Knowledge of:Forensic lab procedures, safety regulations, and handling of chemicals.Proficiency with Agilent, DEA, and Thermo Fischer instruments.Microsoft Office Suite.Grant writing.Skills:Strong problem-solving and logical reasoning abilities.Capability to interpret complex information and make independent decisions.Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills.Ability to prepare technical reports and deliver clear presentations.Education & Experience:Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field, with 3-5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Working Conditions / Physical RequirementsThis role involves light physical work, exposure to chemicals, odors, and occasional intense noise.
