SUMMARY
This is a senior level Chemist involved in testing samples during and post production. This role is viewed as an expert to other Chemists and in the Analytical Center. This role may be involved in the training and mentoring of other Chemists and may eventually serve as an expert at the plant site.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Demonstrates strong safety culture through personal behavior and commitment to environmental, health & safety.
* Participates in the PACE culture of safety.
* Researches, analyzes, synthesizes, and experiments on substances, for such purposes as product and process development and application, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and improvement of analytical methodologies.
* Carries out the most complex procedures and experiments according to protocol and standard operating procedures in accordance with all regulatory requirements. May utilize new equipment, and develop procedures and methods for solution of technical problems.
* Handles regulated materials, potential biohazard matrices, and toxic chemicals according to company procedures and policies as required by the studies performed.
* Performs complex data evaluations, reviews the work of others, and writes complex technical reports and standard operating procedures.
* Develops standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, and tests.
* May provide IS support for CBliss and other laboratory applications and perform maintenance on analytical instruments as needed within the laboratory environment.
* Participates in periodic operations reviews with a developed understanding of plant chemistry and operations of the equipment to provide input on operation.
* May also provide direction, training and coaching to Lab Analysts or others in the department.
* Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's degree in Chemistry
* Minimum of 8 years of experience in an industrial setting
* Proficient in Microsoft software applications
* Excellent communication and organizational skills
* Able to work with people in various levels within Westlake, particularly in a team environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
