General Summary:

Responsible for supervising departmental unit employees and support staff. Reviews reports concerning the status of inmates housed in the Oakland County Jail. Assists the court in the more complex bonding considerations and other sentencing alternatives. Prepares and presents regular reports based on program statistics to appropriate officials. Responds to and initiates correspondence to a variety of individuals within the criminal justice system. Participates in developing, implementing, and updating policies and procedures for the consistent operation of the entire division, including the customized data management system. Assists with establishing long range goals and strategies for the division. Assists the manager in the development of the division budget and in presentations to the Board of Commissioners and related committees. Assists the manager in the development of the state grant application. Functions as a liaison concerning the various departmental committees and agencies. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

At the time of application, applicants must:

  • A. Possess a Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Public or Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or related area; ANDB. Have at least five (5) years of full-time casework or related work experience involving interviewing, investigating, and counseling practices, procedures, and techniques; OR
  • A. Possess a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Public or Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or related area; ANDB. Have at least seven (7) years of full-time casework or related work experience involving interviewing, investigating, and counseling practices, procedures, and techniques.NOTE: Applicants possessing transcripts from a college or university outside of the United States will be required to provide documentation of degree equivalency from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services ( The degree evaluation will be required for application processing.
  • Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.
  • Successfully complete the six month probationary period.

    If a job offer is made, an official transcript with the award date will be required as part of the hiring process. Transcripts from outside the United States must be assessed for U.S. equivalency by a NACES National Association of Credential Evaluation Services ( documents such as reference, cover letter, resume, etc will not be reviewed.
