We also use applied technology expertise to serve the defense, entertainment, material handling, aerospace, science, and renewable energy industries.Position SummaryAs the Chief Engineer (CHENG) for Oceaneering's Marine Services Division (MSD), you will be the lead technical authority, ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and technical accuracy across all operations. Serving as the primary technical advisor, you'll guide the development of standards, policies, and controls that support daily operations, ensuring that all technical activities align with MSD's mission and rigorous quality standards.In this role, you'll oversee the technical rigor and standardization of procedures and protocols, working closely with the Engineering Department Manager to address engineering management needs. You'll provide direct technical leadership on significant projects, collaborating with Program Managers, lead engineers, and teams across Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, and Purchasing to support MSD's manufacturing, integration, and testing processes. Additionally, you'll play a pivotal role in mentoring and developing MSD's engineering and technical talent, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.This position will initially be 100% in-office for the first six months to allow for full immersion in MSD's operations and culture. After this period, a hybrid work arrangement may be available, with three days in-office and two remote, offering flexibility as you continue to make a significant impact on MSD's engineering programs.Join us to lead and inspire a team dedicated to advancing the technical capabilities of the Marine Services Division!Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead Technical Oversight: Provide guidance and support for projects by supervising Project Engineers and Lead Waterfront Engineers, ensuring all work meets high technical standards.
  • Enhance Engineering Practices: Collaborate to develop and refine policies and procedures that improve the engineering process, promoting efficiency and innovation across the division.
  • Support Team Development: Partner with the Engineering Department Manager on hiring, staffing, training, and professional growth initiatives for engineering and technical teams, fostering an inclusive, skilled workforce.
  • Foster Collaborative Communication: Promote open, proactive communication within project teams and across project boundaries, ensuring the sharing of knowledge, technical insights, and lessons learned.
  • Stay Current with Advancements: Remain informed on new scientific methods and industry developments; provide recommendations for adapting company programs to keep our work relevant and impactful.
  • Guide Independent Research & Development: Support ongoing IR&D efforts by providing continuity, insights, and guidance for innovation within the product area.
  • Evaluate Project Alignment: Review incoming work to confirm alignment with the Division's capabilities, qualifications, and goals, contributing to efficient project selection and resourcing.
  • Expand Critical Program Qualifications: Oversee initiatives that broaden the Division's qualifications for working on essential systems in submarine and deep submergence communities.
  • Coordinate Key Events: Manage and oversee critical events, such as submarine undocking, to ensure procedural and technical success.
  • Build Industry Connections: Maintain strong relationships with peers and organizations outside the company, bringing fresh perspectives and technical knowledge to our work.
  • Manage Quality Assurance: Oversee processes for identifying and resolving non-conforming conditions, ensuring all work adheres to stringent specifications and quality standards.
  • Lead Complex R&D Projects: Plan and direct advanced research and development projects, leveraging new techniques and approaches to address unique challenges.
  • Oversee Key Navy Programs: Implement and manage the Navy Unrestricted Operation (URO) Maintenance Requirement Card (MRC) and Hull Integrity Procedure (HIP) programs, ensuring adherence to Navy standards.
  • Drive Project Execution: Organize and coordinate major projects that have a significant impact on company programs, seeing them through from concept to completion.
  • Establish Divisional Procedures: Provide input and feedback on divisional corporate procedures, technical procedures, and technical directives to ensure best practices.
  • Lead Proposal Efforts: Play a key role in Bid and Proposal activities, including cost estimation, technical approach definition, and scheduling input.
  • Coordinate with SUBSAFE Program Directors: Work closely with SUBSAFE Program Directors to manage the technical aspects of the program, including qualifications, procedures, and asset certification.
QualificationsEducation:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Ocean, or Nuclear) or Naval Architecture from an accredited college or university. A Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification or a master's degree in engineering is strongly preferred.
Experience:
  • At least 15 years of progressively responsible engineering experience, ideally with U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) projects.
  • Advanced expertise in engineering principles and practices, with comprehensive knowledge across all related engineering fields within the company.
  • Proven leadership abilities.
  • Strong familiarity with Marine Services Division (MSD) processes, with the ability to provide input on process development, adjusting technical rigor as appropriate is highly desired.
Skills:
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, organizational skills, time management, and multitasking abilities. Capable of thriving in a fast-paced, ISO-9000 certified environment.
Other Requirements:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Clearance.
