Job Opportunity: Chief Estimator

Location: Houston, TX

Sector: Commercial Construction

Are you a seasoned Estimator with a deep understanding of commercial construction? A leading Houston-based General Contractor is seeking a Chief Estimator to lead their pre-construction efforts on ground-up projects across K-12, Office, Healthcare, Medical, and other sectors, with values up to $60M.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the entire estimating process, from initial bid to final submission, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Develop comprehensive project cost estimates, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor bids.
  • Lead a team of estimators, providing mentorship and oversight to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Owners, and Designers during the pre-construction phase to align scope and budget.
  • Evaluate project documents to identify scope, risks, and opportunities for value engineering.
  • Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Review and present bid packages and proposals to executive leadership for approval.
  • Stay updated on market trends, material costs, and labor rates to maintain competitive estimates.
  • Implement and maintain estimating tools, software, and databases to enhance team efficiency.
  • Participate in strategic planning and business development efforts by providing accurate cost analysis and input.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience: Minimum 7 years in construction estimating, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of ground-up commercial construction projects and market conditions in the Houston area.
  • Skills: Detail-oriented with excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership abilities.
  • Tools: Proficiency in estimating software such as Bluebeam, ProEst, or similar platforms.
  • Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
