Company Description The Diabetes Link is a national 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is to empower young adults with diabetes (YAs) to thrive by providing open access to peer communities and connections, YA-relevant education and access resources, and professional development and advocacy opportunities. The Diabetes Link's Founder, Christina Roth, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 14. She started the first Diabetes Link (previously College Diabetes Network) chapter in 2009 and received 501c3 non-profit status in 2010. Today, The Diabetes Link is a national organization serving thousands of students and their ecosystem of family, friends, and healthcare providers. In 2022, the organization expanded its mission to be inclusive of the over 700,000 young adults in the US with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes from age 18 to 30. Our core open-access programs include peer communities and connections, YA-relevant educational and access resources, and professional development and advocacy opportunities. We are a virtual organization with a physical location in Boston, MA with a talented staff of 13 employees and 17 contractors that work to help support all our key programs and select areas of operations. Job Description The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) serves as the strategic leader and visionary for The Diabetes Link. Selected by and reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO is responsible for driving mission, setting the strategic priorities, and delivering results while ensuring The Diabetes Link is a healthy, fun and rewarding place to work. Together the CEO and the Board assure the organization's relevance to the community, accomplishment of The Link's mission and vision, and the accountability of The Link to its diverse constituents. The Board delegates responsibility for management and day-to-day operations to the CEO, in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Board. The CEO provides direction, enabling the Board to carry out its governing functions. Key Responsibilities Executive Leadership
  • Provide visionary leadership to inspire and motivate others to contribute to the organization's forward momentum.
  • Embody and promote the organization's core values - Authentic, Bold, Collaborative, and People Centered.
  • Foster a positive organizational culture that values diversity, equity, inclusivity, psychological safety, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Represent the organization's mission, vision, strategic position and competitive advantage, including attending and representing the organization at select meetings, conferences, and events.
  • Build and maintain valued relationships with key industry supporters and strategic partners.
  • Keep informed of trends, issues, events and developments within the diabetes sector through professional peer contacts, conference attendance, etc.
Strategic Planning
  • Work with the Leadership Team and the Board to develop mid- and long-term strategic priorities and growth objectives.
  • Create and maintain an annual and three-year strategic plan, ensuring annual Board review and approval of the plan; including the successful execution of the drafted 2025 organizational plan.
  • Provide strategic direction over each department, conducting regular individual and team meetings to ensure alignment and accountability on organizational priorities.
  • Provide relevant and timely updates to all staff.
Financial Management and Fundraising
  • Manage an annual budget exceeding $2M, comprised of corporate memberships and sponsorships, organizational sponsorships and grants, and individual giving revenue.
  • Lead diverse fundraising efforts by cultivating existing and new relationships with donors, sponsors, partners, and other prospects.
  • Develop and implement sustainable fundraising strategies in partnership with the Development Team to increase revenue across all channels.
  • Work with externally contracted CFO to establish the organization's annual budget planning and processes, managing all financial reporting cycles and actual-to-budget performance.
  • Ensure the organization's stability and sustainability by maintaining a healthy cash flow and adequate reserves.
  • Monitor Board-approved budget and manage financial operations to maximize utilization of resources within budget guidelines.
Board Governance and Management
  • Align Directors of the Board to strategic direction, operational plans, budget, and fundraising goals.
  • Establish effective meeting cadence with the Board Chair to ensure timely action on key decisions.
  • Lead quarterly Executive Committee and Board meetings, providing reports and proactively bringing issues to the Board's attention.
  • Provide oversight to all other Board Committees.
Qualifications
  • Experience in the diabetes sector with demonstrated connections to industry and strategic partners.
  • Excellence in organizational management with proven leadership experience in a non-profit organization and 10+ years in senior leadership or executive roles.
  • Proven success in strategic planning, fundraising, and board management.
  • Proven ability to inspire and lead a diverse team towards collective success.
  • Financial acumen and experience with budgeting, oversight, and resource allocation.
  • Proven success supervising and mentoring staff and teams, including professional development.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, delegate, and manage time.
  • A bachelor's degree is required with an advanced degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Travel Requirements:
  • Must be able to travel as needed to attend meetings, events, and conferences.

Compensation & Benefits The Diabetes Link is a remote organization. The role of CEO is an exempt full-time position. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
