Who We Are
At San Francisco AIDS Foundation, we are more than an organization—we are a movement committed to transforming healthjustice from an aspiration into a reality. Since our founding in 1982, we have led the charge against HIV, not as mere bystanders to change but as determined architects of progress. Our mission is to eliminate HIV transmission and enhance the quality of life for those impacted by HIV, guided by thebelief that health, dignity, and wellness are fundamental rights for everyone, regardless of race, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status. We envision a world where the barriers to health equity are dismantled, where substance use is met with compassion, and where a person's HIV status does notdefine their potential or their quality of life.
Our work is deeply rooted in the core values of Justice, Dignity, Courage, Leadership, and Excellence—principles that shape our strategies, partnerships, and the actions of our dedicated team. Through five interconnected program areas—sexual health, substance use and behavioral health, engagement and retention, social support, policy, and public education—we create a holistic support system for the communities most affected by HIV. We go beyond service delivery, focusing on dismantling systemic barriers that perpetuate health disparities, and centering our resources on those who need them most. By joining SFAF, you become part of a relentless pursuit to end HIV and build a future where every person can achieve their fullest potential in health and life.

Candidate Profile
San Francisco AIDS Foundation (SFAF) seeks a visionary and emotionally intelligent leader to serve as its next Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This pivotal role requires a strategic thinker with deep expertise in financial management and a profound commitment to SFAF's mission of promoting health, wellness, and social justice for communities most impacted by HIV.
We are seeking a dynamic leader who can build upon the current foundation while addressing the opportunities that come with organizational change. The ideal candidate will possess the vision and skills necessary to strengthen internal structures and foster growth and innovation. As CFO, you will navigate complex financial landscapes while staying grounded in the core values of Justice, Dignity, Courage, Leadership, and Excellence. Your decisions will balance financial acumen with empathy as you lead with integrity, inspire trust, and foster collaboration across diverse teams, all while ensuring the organization's financial sustainability.
Reporting directly to the CEO, the CFO will provide strategic oversight of SFAF's financial, business, and compliance activities, developing both short and long-range financial plans to secure the organization's future. You will oversee finance, budgeting, and accounting functions, leading the annual budget process, managing the investment portfolio, and implementing robust financial controls and procedures. With a Finance Department comprising eight full-time staff, including a Controller and an Associate Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis, you will be tasked with guiding the team through periods of significant change, including the implementation of a new finance operations system in your first year.
As a member of the Executive Team, you will regularly engage with the Board of Directors, serving as the liaison to the Finance and Audit, Risk, and Compliance Committees. You will also collaborate closely with the Philanthropy and Business Development departments to strengthen revenue generation efforts, annual fundraising events, third-party billing infrastructure, and the 340B Pharmacy Program. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading functions beyond finance and accounting, showcasing a proactive approach, future-focused thinking, and a relentless commitment to transparency and accountability. You will not only manage the financial health of SFAF but also contribute to shaping a culture that values equity, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.
