Job Summary:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is an integral part of the leadership team, acting as the financial thought partner to the CEO and the Senior Leadership Team. The CFO will work collaboratively to meet and exceed the expectations and goals set forth by the Board, focusing on improving efficiencies and productivity while enhancing the member experience. The CFO is directly responsible for all fiscal functions of the Club, adhering to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) issued by the FASB, and utilizing financial management techniques appropriate within the industry.

Through hands-on leadership, this individual will oversee all financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, risk management, loss prevention, taxation, internal audit, and other financial matters. The CFO will collaborate with the CEO and Finance Committee to establish long-range goals, strategies, and policies. Additionally, the CFO will oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Real Estate, and IT functions to ensure the comprehensive financial health and operational efficiency of the Club.

Job Duties:

Financial Management:
  • Manages the Club's fiscal functions and performance, participating in the development of financial planning to realize long-term strategic objectives.
  • Serves as an engaged leader with a clear financial vision, driving financial controls and results, ensuring consistency, timeliness, and accuracy of finances and reporting.
  • Regularly communicates with the CEO, Senior Leadership Team, Treasurer/Finance Committee, and Board, and supports monthly reviews with management.
Policy & Procedure Enhancement:
  • Enhances, develops, implements, and enforces financial policies, procedures, and practices by establishing systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the Club.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
  • Develops, implements, and maintains proactive, structured, and transparent planning and budgeting processes.
  • Actively participates in the continual improvement of the budgeting process by educating department managers on financial issues impacting budgets and operational performance.
  • Prepares budgets and financial forecasts in coordination with Senior Staff and the CEO.
  • Monitors budget versus actual expenditures and advises management about variances and their potential causes, recommending corrective actions to help ensure budget goals are met.
Financial Analysis & Reporting:
  • Provides analytic review of cash flow, cost control, and expenses to identify potential areas for improvement.
  • Anticipates unfavorable financial results or variances, conducts research, and is prepared to offer preliminary explanations and appropriate countermeasures.
  • Provides monthly dashboards for the leadership team, Board, and community, offering clear insights into financial performance and key metrics.
  • Prepares and presents financial reports and updates at Annual Meetings, Town Halls, and other community forums as necessary.
Collections & Bad Debt Management:
  • Manages the collection efforts on delinquent accounts to ensure consistent application of the Club's governing documents, policies, and procedures, and ensures the Club is fully reserved for potential bad debts.
Insurance Management:
  • Manages the Club's Property and Casualty insurance programs, ensuring that all property records and liability issues are properly administered.
External Audit Oversight:
  • Oversees and manages the annual external audit process.
Real Estate Transactions & New Member Integration:
  • Supervises the coordination of real estate transactions, including buying back lots in default.
  • Manages new member setup requirements in JONAS (and may also oversee Gatesure and ForeTees) systems, distribution of new member packets, and acquisition of new member demographic information.
  • Monitors and enforces financial agreements with the developer partner, EDC, ensuring compliance and addressing any financial disputes or adjustments.
  • Oversees real estate transactions involving the acquisition and disposition of lots and homes within the community.
Tax Compliance:
  • Prepares and/or supervises the preparation of applicable federal, state, and local tax returns.
IT & Systems Oversight:
  • Oversees the installation and configuration of local area networks, voice over internet protocol telephone systems, cellular communications, copier, facsimile and scanning equipment, and public and private websites.
  • Manages the integration and functionality of IT systems to support the Club's financial and operational needs.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • High level of integrity.
  • Ability to build relationships and teams; is trustworthy and can gain financial credibility with management and Club governance.
  • Visible and accessible; a collaborative team player and strategic leader who can work well with all levels within and outside the Club.
  • Hands-on leader who understands the urgency of meeting needs across multiple dimensions.
  • Demonstrated ability to juggle and prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands.
  • Experience in club management, hospitality management, or not-for-profit management.
  • Experience with club industry computer systems including Jonas, HIS, or equivalent reservation systems.
  • A mentor, leader, and team developer.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree with a concentration in Finance or Accounting.
  • MBA preferable.
  • CPA a plus.
  • 10+ years of progressive financial management experience in a relevant industry.
