The Ursuline School seeks a strategic, experienced financial and operations leader to fill the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) position. The CFO embodies, in all ways, excellence, integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to Ursuline's Mission. Reporting to the President, the CFO supports the School's Mission and strategic plan and will manage, implement and organize comprehensive financial, investment, and operational initiatives for the School.
Start Date: No later than 10/1/2023Position: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Reports to: President Compensation: $200,000 - $250,000 (salary commensurate with background and experience) in addition to an extensive benefits package
Desired Qualifications, Education, and Experience● Bachelor's degree required; MBA or CPA preferred● Experience in an independent school setting is preferred● At least ten years of senior-level experience managing financial and accounting processes, including preparing monthly and annual financial statements, developing budgets, financial plans, and cash projections; working with auditors; overseeing bank and investment accounts and banking relationships; and approving contracts ● Demonstrated ability to identify and manage risks and maintain appropriate financial controls, policies, and procedures to control risk and ensure efficient financial functioning● Experience managing tuition billing and collections, financial aid awards, and scholarships● Commitment to confidentiality and the ability to manage information and financial discussions with professionalism and empathy● Experience with donors and accounting for restricted and unrestricted donations● Experience serving on a senior administrative team and working with nonprofit boards ● Experience in employee benefits management, including 403b plans and payroll processes ● Demonstrated experience in the development of financial models and analysis to support strategic decision-making● Strong knowledge of not-for-profit and educational administration, accounting policies, procedures, practices, and software programs● Experience managing facilities, information technology (IT), security, and other auxiliary departments● Superb communication skills, including excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills ● Ability to think and plan strategically and creatively and make sense of complex issues to solve problems effectively ● Ability to supervise, manage, and delegate responsibilities across multiple functions and activities● Ability to remain calm, flexible, and work effectively under pressure ● Experience/commitment to supporting practices that promote equity and inclusion● Ability to undertake professional responsibilities with a high degree of honesty, authenticity, transparency, and integrity
Job Responsibilities● Supports the School's Mission and strategic plans by providing School-wide strategic leadership to implement and organize comprehensive business, financial, investment, and operational functions and initiatives for the School● Skillfully interprets and applies understanding of key financial indicators, including short and long-term financial models, to make sound fiscal decisions● Oversees all financial reporting, including the development and approval of the annual operating budget, periodic reports of operating results compared to the budget, and cash flow analysis● Collaborates on all fiscal matters with the Board of Trustees, the Finance and Facilities Committees of the Board, the President, and other administrators, including organizing meeting agendas/materials and making presentations ● Oversees the administration of the School's endowment; implements investment decisions of the Finance Committee; and coordinates with investment managers ensuring endowment allocations, performance, and reporting goals are met● In consultation with the President, develops and presents the annual budget proposal for Finance Committee review and Board of Trustees approval, including recommendations on annual student tuition and employee salary increases ● Evaluates the functions of the Finance Office, including the performance of staff, and develops goals and systems to ensure optimal departmental performance● Oversees the annual financial audit and the filing of tax returns and all local and state reporting requirements● Oversees and manages all aspects of the payroll process, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely disbursement of employee compensation● Oversees the benefits budget and negotiates with service providers (health insurance, retirement, and other related plans)● Partners with the Director of Admissions to develop the financial aid budget● Supports the Director of Philanthropy in the stewardship of major donors, ensuring compliance relating to all gifts and donations to the School● Supervises School operations in the following areas: facilities, transportation, food service, security, and Information Technology (IT)● Works closely with the President and the Director of Human Resources to examine school policies and review relevant industry data to ensure the School's continued commitment to competitive and equitable employee compensation ● Forms and maintains relationships with banks, professional accountants, legal counsel, and insurance companies● Files annual reports with New York State for reimbursement of Mandated Services and actively pursues grants and other funding sources available to schools● Serves on the School's senior administrative team and leads or participates in other committees● Performs other duties as assigned by the President
