What you should know about the role
The Chief Financial Officer assists the President/CEO in the oversight of the financial activities of the credit union, directs the preparation of current financial reports and summaries, and creates forecasts predicting future growth. The CFO position is responsible for treasury, budgeting, tax, accounting, asset and liability management, and financial control activities. This position develops and coordinates necessary and appropriate accounting and statistical data and reports. The CFO counsels management on fiscal control and profitability, ensuring the fair measurement and presentation of the company's financial results and condition under U.S. GAAP, and for the safeguarding and optimum use of the organization's assets in order to maximize return.
The CFO directs Accounting, Business Reporting, and Finance, providing leadership, training, and supervision while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures, applicable state and federal banking regulations and laws. This position must be focused on meeting operational and strategic goals as well as the professional growth, development, and success of their team members.
One of the most essential functions of this position is to drive the credit union's mission by providing outstanding service to both internal and external members while demonstrating the core values of the credit union: Act with Integrity, Drive Progress, Build & Strengthen Relationships, and Keep People at the Core.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Experience
Experience in investment strategies and management of liquidity and investment portfolios.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
A college degree and a professional certificate or a post-graduate degree. CFA, CPA, and CMA preferred.
Interpersonal Skills
Work frequently involves contacts requiring considerable discussion of problems, material presentations, and resolving issues impacting multiple departments or divisions. The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of professional diplomacy, trust, and relationship.
Other Skills
Experience in generally accepted accounting principles and all State and Federal regulations affecting the company's finance function.
Experience in budget forecasting and regulatory reporting.
Knowledge of income tax regulations and requirements for Thrift institutions.
Physical Requirements
Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergency situations.
Working Conditions
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in a climate-controlled private office with minimal noise.
Mental and/or Emotional Requirements
Must be able to perform job functions independently and work effectively either on own or as part of a team; capable of planning and directing the work activities of others.
