Position Summary:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial and operational aspects of the school district. This position involves strategic planning, budgeting, financial management, and ensuring compliance with local, state and federal regulations. The CFO will collaborate with various stakeholders to promote financial transparency, enhance resource allocation and support the district's educational goals.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Financial Management:
a. Develop, implement and oversee the district's annual budget.
b. Monitor and analyze financial performance against budgetary goals.
c. Prepare financial reports for the Board of Education and other stakeholders.
2. Strategic Planning:
a. Collaborate with district leadership to establish long-term financial goals and strategies.
b. Assess resource needs and align financial planning with educational objectives.
3. Compliance and Reporting:
a. Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations and district policies.
b. Oversee audits and ensure timely and accurate reporting to regulatory bodies.
4. Resource Allocation:
a. Evaluate and recommend the allocation of financial resources to support educational programs and initiatives.
b. Monitors the inventory of district facilities and equipment and provides for the repair or replacement of school corporation equipment as necessary.
c. Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation.
5. Team Leadership:
a. Lead and develop the business operations team, including the business, transportation, food service, and maintenance/facilities departments.
b. Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.
6. Stakeholder Engagement:
a. Communicate financial and operational strategies to the Board, staff and community.
b. Manages district-wide property and casualty insurance programs.
c. Serves on the health insurance committee.
d. Work closely with other departments to ensure effective resource utilization.
7. Grant Management:
a. Oversee grant applications and compliance, ensuring alignment with district goals.
8. Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
Job Requirements:
Experience:
Minimum of five years of successful experience in business management in either the public or private sector. Experience or knowledge of school law, regulations governing school finance administration and school budgets desirable.
Knowledge and Skills:
Bachelor's Degree or beyond in Business, Accounting or related field or Educational Specialist Degree (Ed.S) with administrative certification. In-depth knowledge of principles, methods, techniques and practices of budget administration. Proven and effective skills in interpersonal relationships, oral and written communications. Demonstrated decision-making, problem solving, organizational and planning skills. Working knowledge of computer usage and ability to use standard software, internet software, e-mail, spreadsheets and word processing software.
Effective communication skills, oral and written. Team player with strong interpersonal skills to communicate and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, the Board and the community. Ability to take direction, with initiative and dependability in carrying out assignments. Clerical skills, flexibility and confidentiality is required.
