Paramount for every job at every level on every campus is the fulfillment of this Mission.Job PrioritiesThis Mission is furthered in accordance with the priorities observed in all aspects of school life: Safety, Character, and Scholarship and an unfailing adherence to the School Pledge.Department Head of Administration/Chief Financial Officer - Job Responsibilities Purpose: Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer of The Roger Bacon Academy, the Department Head of Administration/Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will set the financial policy and direction while also being an active participant in, and driver of, The Roger Bacon Academy's overall strategy. S/he will lead and develop the Finance Operations function which oversees and manages all finance, accounting and reporting activities, including budgeting, forecasting, account reconciliation, and profit and loss reporting. The CFO oversees all activities related to annual regulatory audits, tax compliance, and cash flow planning. S/he ensures that the required systems, policies and procedures are in place to support effective, efficient and compliant finance operations. The CFO will assist with development and execution of strategic initiatives and long-term planning efforts. As a member of the senior management team, the CFO will work closely with department heads and the school board of directors. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Project long-term financial plan of the company
  • Responsible for presenting and reporting accurate and timely financial statements and information for all companies
  • Review, revise and create all company financial policies and procedures
  • Study, analyze and prepare reports on trends, opportunities for expansion and projection of future company growth
  • Financial statements will be produced monthly and should be presented to management by the 10th of the month, analyze the financial activity for the month and make changes or suggestions for change where needed
  • Reviews data that goes into the financial package software (i.e. Quickbooks and Bill.com) and construct reports (Balance Sheets, Statement of Earnings, Cash Flows & others) for management to use
  • Manage all employees in the Finance Department.
  • Prepare budgets for all companies
  • Serve as an officer-treasurer for nonprofit school board
  • Assist Headmasters in preparing budgets for schools
  • Begin the budgeting process by determining the projected student count of the school with the Headmaster
  • Determine with management the state & county projected increase/decrease versus prior year for all funding based on the most current economic indicators available
  • Provide Headmaster with updated financial statements (current & historical if needed) and revised current year budgets as a starting point for the budget
  • Identify the accounts that the Headmaster will be responsible to budget and the accounts that the RBA Corporate Office will budget (rent, management fees, administrative fees & others)
  • Coordinate all audit and tax activity, ensuring audits with unmodified opinions and timely filing of tax returns.
  • Implements and monitors business strategy
  • Handle accounting and reporting for governmental agencies
  • Work with 3rd party contracted services to process all grant information
  • Oversee the day-to-day work that 3rd party contracted services provide the accounting dept
  • Work with 3rd party contracted services on current financial statements and budget progress
  • Handle cash management and all banking services
  • Analyze expenses and suggest cost savings
  • Oversee Payroll
  • Review and approve all payments
  • Review, revise and create all company credit policies
Other Duties:The position of Department Head of Administration/CFO will be required to travel as needed to the campuses of the schools managed by The Roger Bacon Academy. Additionally, the position is a 12-month RBA position and follows the RBA calendar. QualificationsThe Department Head of Administration/Chief Financial Officer will have the following experience and attributes:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree and CPA/CMA; an MBA would be a plus.
  • At least five to eight years of professional experience in finance and administration.
  • Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting; nonprofit board experience preferred.
  • Experience should include legal, audit, compliance, budget, and resource development.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies, and guiding investment in people and systems.
  • An effective communicator, with strong oral and written skills.
  • Technologically savvy, with an ability to point to examples of having worked with IT staff to develop and implement new processes and systems that increased efficiency in a fast-moving environment.
  • Flexible and a self-starter; able to multi-task while also being highly detail oriented.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to The Roger Bacon Academy's mission.
  • Physical ability to lift/carry 20 lbs. and dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.
