The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking qualified candidates for the senior position of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) within the Office of Minority Health (OMH). This is an exciting opportunity to lead efforts aimed at reducing health disparities and promoting health equity for racial and ethnic minorities, as well as American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) populations.

Office Description:

The Office of Minority Health (OMH) is part of the Office of the Secretary (OS) within HHS. OMH works to improve the health of racial and ethnic minority populations through policy development, program implementation, and partnership-building. The office focuses on addressing health disparities through evidence-based programs, research, and strategic interventions to improve overall health outcomes and reduce inequities in the healthcare system. OMH collaborates with federal agencies, healthcare providers, community organizations, and policymakers to advance its mission.

Job Description:

As the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for OMH, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing initiatives that promote health equity and reduce disparities in health outcomes. The CMO will serve as a key technical expert, providing clinical insights, leadership, and strategic guidance in the development of programs and policies focused on improving the health of racial and ethnic minority populations.

Your duties will include:

  • Providing clinical expertise to inform and guide OMH's policies and initiatives aimed at addressing health disparities.
  • Leading and overseeing the design, implementation, and evaluation of health disparity reduction programs, ensuring they align with organizational goals and best practices.
  • Contributing to the development of evidence-based policies and programs that promote improved health outcomes for minority populations.
  • Engaging in data analysis and reporting, providing clinical insights into the collection, analysis, and interpretation of health data to inform programmatic strategies and track progress toward health equity goals.
  • Representing OMH in strategic communications and community engagement, collaborating with external stakeholders including federal agencies, national organizations, healthcare providers, and community groups.
  • Supporting evaluation and quality improvement efforts to assess the effectiveness of minority health initiatives and recommend improvements.
  • Contributing to capacity building and training of internal and external partners on best practices, cultural competency, and health equity.

Qualifications:

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification in a relevant medical specialty (e.g., family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, or preventive medicine).
  • Active, in-good-standing medical license.
  • Demonstrated experience in minority health, health disparities, and culturally competent care.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in health policy development and program evaluation related to public health and health equity.
