The anticipated start date is December 1, 2024.Morehead State University is located in Morehead, KY, a designated Kentucky Trail Town, nestled in the Daniel Boone National Forest, in close proximity to Cave Run Lake. Morehead State University delivers a strong and affordable education for friendly, ambitious students who thrive in a student-focused learning environment defined by small class sizes and faculty committed to teaching and student success.RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general executive direction from the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Chief of Police, plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and evaluates all activities and programs of the police department to protect individual rights, preserve the peace, prevent and suppress crime, protect life and property, identify and apprehend criminal offenders, and enforce regulatory measures; performs related duties as required and as assigned.REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree required. Eight or more years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, three of which must be at the Lieutenant level or higher within a university or school setting.Police Training Requirements:Must have Peace Officer Professional Standards Certification in Kentucky or qualify for minimum standards. Must meet all pre-employment standards as established by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council and the Peace Officers Professional Standards Office. Must complete a 16-week basic training course or hold a current K.L.E.C. certification; required to complete, on an annual basis, in-service training and any other training required by K.L.E.C. or Morehead State University Police Department.Other Requirements:Preemployment drug testing is mandatory. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Effective interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to articulate proven strategies for building and maintaining the trust of the University administration and the general University community. Ability to command departmental personnel. The ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of others in a manner conductive to full performance and high morale. The ability to enforce laws, rules and regulations firmly, tactfully and consistently. The ability to analyze complex police problems and to adapt quick, effective and reasonable courses of action. The ability to maintain records and to prepare clear and concise reports of police activities. The ability to react quickly, calmly and effectively under stress and in emergencies.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree preferred.
